This is expressly for corellianjedi, who has been Weird, USA's #1 fangirl since Day One, and is the captain of the HMS Ben/Liv. Lizz asked for some domestic post-road trip fic, and so here is a little taste of what life is like for Ben and Olivia after their crazy year on the road...

In the not-so-distant future. )

genre: literary fiction, novel excerpt, weird; usa

He’d stopped wearing his watch weeks ago-Olivia had noticed and asked, assuming he’d lost it or that it had broken.
He had shrugged nonchalantly and said, “Don’t really need one any more,” in a casual way.
Being weirdly perceptive of time is one of those unique character traits that I loooooooove. (I blame JAG.) I also love how Olivia is fine with it. Well, not fine. It is and it's not. I think Olivia would be perfectly happy if there wasn't any weirdness in her life ever again, but she loves Ben and Ben is "weird" so oh well, she can absolutely live with the weird, too.

And it was in soft moments like this when he remembered, the truth nudging him firmly but gently, and his breath would stutter in his throat. She was his wife. He was her husband.
I literally kinda softened, melted, slumped in my chair. THEY'RE MARRIEDDDDDD.

Ugh and then all the breakfast and dog stuff, which is so freaking domestic and WHEN DID DOMESTIC FIC BECOME MY KRYPTONITE. You two are just so perfect for each other I want to die.

GRINNING LIKE A LOON WHO HAS OVERDOSED ON LOONY PILLS.

PERFECT GIFS ARE PERFECT. YOU ARE SO RIGHT: IT IS AN ART FORM.

And feel free to write them WHENEVER YOUR HEART DESIRES IT.

Also: Yeah, writing this may or may not have given me a bunch of ideas about a sequel arc....

BUT IT FEELS WEIRD 'CAUSE THEY'RE YOURS AND YOU'RE THINKING SEQUEL ART AND NORMALLY WRITING FUTURE SPEC FIC WOULD JUST BE FUN BUT WHEN YOU'RE WRITING IT FOR THE ORIGINAL AUTHOR IT'S REALLY STRESSFUL AND WEIRD 'CAUSE MAYBE MY SPEC FIC IS LIKE MILES FROM WHATEVER YOU WERE THINKING.

PFFFFFT, FEEL FREE ALWAYS, SWEETIE. If we diverge in the story, so we diverge! You'll essentially just be writing AU fic, that's all, and I know you get my characters and can write FABULOUSLY, so there's never any need to apologize or be worried! I HAVE THE UTMOST FAITH IN YOU.

They're so perfect, I want to cry, omg.

If you ever felt like writing more Ben/Liv, I would certainly not be opposed, just saying.

Olivia sighed and pressed her cheek against his neck. The world was quiet, still, cool around the edges but warming quickly. And it was in soft moments like this when he remembered, the truth nudging him firmly but gently, and his breath would stutter in his throat. She was his wife. He was her husband. It was still new enough to spark a thrill of wonder in him, as if this was nothing but a dream he’d wake from soon enough.

bawwwwwwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhh

“This has been nice,” Ben commented. “House-sitting is like the best of both worlds. All of the trappings of home-owning without any of the hassles. We should make a career of this.”
“You know, that isn’t a half-bad idea,” Olivia mused, getting up to refill her cup. “Maybe I could design some fliers. You could make a website. We could use all of your paranormal contacts to get the word out-I’m sure there are other ghostbusters and monster hunters out there who could use house-sitters while they’re off bagging the things that go bump in the night.”
