Fletcher only has Russel for family. This is because his father up and left the both of them when they were wee little. Anime canon doesn't say anything about their mom, but in novel canon, she died of being tired from running from the military. And that was before Nash left, which makes him an even worse father. Though book!Nash didn't suck as much, since he planned to go back for them, but still.
Gau was tossed out into the wild because his mother died during childbirth and his father thought he was a demon. Yay.
Uuuuh. Well. None of my characters have canon families, but this is what I think:
I like to THINK that Midvalley came from something of a normal family. As normal as anything on Gunsmoke gets, anyways. He hasn't seen them in YEARS though, cause he kinda cut ties so... like Legato wouldn't hunt them down for whatever reason.
Smith... doesn't even know how old he is. I'm betting family is long gone/long forgotten.
Aha, I think Barry had a pretty messed up family. I mean, look at how he turned out. He probably slaughtered his family not long after he finished off his wife. :|b
Norrington I think has a normal family, though his father is a little harsh and has very, VERY high expectations for his boy. Poor Norrie.
Aaand lastly Rivalz has a generic set of high-class Britainnain parents. I think his mother is kind of clingy, though.
Alfons: Daddy gone. Mommy died. Separated from big bro... big bro zeppelin'd. Thanks, Ed.
Simon: Daddy HAET! Simon was essentially disowned for fighting so hard to get River out of the institution she was in. Daddy didn't want the family name tarnished. He didn't start out so bad, though.
Yankumi: Both parents died in a car accident, raised by yakuza boss grandfather and the rest of the Kumi.
Havoc: Generally unknown, save for an appearance by a fussy mother in the manga. He's described himself as a country boy, so I'm guessing that Ma and Pa are on the porch back home.
SORA's only known family is his mom. And she's just a disembodied voice, for all we know. :|b
ROXAS... technically has no family. Unless Sora counts as a parent. Which just fucks up my OTP even more.
SAKURA has a relatively normal family, consisting of her dad and her older brother (and I guess Tomoyo counts too since they're second cousins?). Her mom died when she was three, though.
TOHRU, before moving in with the Sohmas, lived with her paternal grandfather. Her father died of pneumonia when she was young, and her mother died in a car accident shortly before Furuba starts. She considers the Sohmas her family now, though. :D;
PRESEA's known family are all dead. Her mom is never mentioned, and her sister and dad both died while she was under the influence of her Key Crest-less Exsphere. Heck, before Lloyd and the others met her, she still thought her dad was alive even though his body was like, right in front of her every day.
SUZAKU went "HOW DO I SHANKED OTOU-SAN?" Simple as that.
I can't say anything about Inu or Luki's families, since the only thing I know about them is that Luki's sister is Noki. Same goes for Kyuzo; I know absolutely NOTHING about his family aside from them probably being samurai as well. Dunno about Edward, either.
KOS-MOS's 'family' is basically Shion and Allen, but she's a robot so...
The most given about Haine's family is that his "mom" (whether that's metaphorical or biological isn't specified) is Professor Einstellson, the same person who I think was head of the Cerberus spinal cord research? Either way it's insinuated that Haine's only family was his sister Lilly, since he grew up as a test subject. Of course, he murdered Lilly - literally tore her into pieces with his hands - but despite that, still misses her a lot.
