Spa Day

Sep 24, 2010 10:32

So my daughter has wanted to have a spa-day party for a long time.  A friend of hers held one, and she's been wanting to do the same for a long time.  SO...the room is clean, the homework is under control and...now it's a go.  I'm scared ( Read more... )

Play a Glee soundtrack. You will be safe with that one, as long as the girls fall between the ages of 8 and 35.
I do not know why they are suddenly the rage...but there you go. Glee for the win.

Have plenty of junk food, too -- Doritos, assorted flavored chips, assorted cookies and soda cans by the gallon -- not generic ones. As I am the queen of cheap, it pains me to say this, but you cannot cut corners on the munchies for this one.

See...that one I get, because that was totally my mother--no one wants your generic chips and Shasta cola. :D And the accountant in me still tends to fall into the trap of the cheap-o Doctor Thunder from Wal-Mart (ok, not that one so much, but the name makes me giggle like a 6th grade boy).

Of course, this being SoCal (eyeroll), I run the risk of at least one of them being a staunch vegan for political and fashion reasons. I hope not...but it does add a +5 to the difficulty.

If you're worried about vegans, make basic onigiri or have humus and veggies. both of which are cool and healthy and non vegans will eat it, too.

Also also, I remember a magazine at the library I used to work called New Moon (no relation to the Twilight Saga) but it was very neat and very positive for girls...it was also edited by teenage girls....

Seventeen magazine is usually a good choice.

Yes, I had Seventeen on my shopping list. Found a cool and popular mag for and by teen girls, but I don't think I've ever seen it in real life. New Moon sounds interesting. Maybe I can find a copy of that too.

I only get Bicycling (naturally) and dad only reads about cars (also...naturally), so there isn't even an old copy of People or Us or (snicker) National Geographic around.

Ever hear of Teen Voices, that sounds similar, but I've never seen a real life copy.

Baby carrots and Kraft Ranch dip are good to serve for both regular kidlets and the OMG-I-don't-eat-meat crowd alike. A fruit plate is always a hit, too.
(I do not know why it has to be Kraft brand ranch, but I have been schooled well in this)

Exactly! non-generic soda and the right ranch. :D The spa book suggested girlie cranberry-pineapple-ginger ale spritzers, I'm thinking that will come across fancy enough to even the trendy SoCal set.

My guess it, I'll put out the veggies and doritos, and you know the doritos will go first. See...I do get this thing, it's all about making us feel like we eat healthy, so we can lie to ourselves and everyone else while we scarf on the chips.

Hmm...maybe I can find an organic, all natural, non-animal product brownie mix. :D

Better than the spritzers -- at the smallbear's birthday parties in high school, they went through bottles and bottles of the non-alcoholic champagne. Drinking it out of stemmed wine glasses was cool stuff indeed.

Goldfish crackers are good stuff too.
