Ok, so I lower the 7 last week. It took 2 whole days of slow work. I could have had it done in one day but I didn't want to rush. I used Tokico HP series shocks and Tanabe GF210 springs. The springs are supposed to be good 20-30% stiffer than stock. I wouldn't really know for sure cause once I pulled out the old parts I found that I had been riding around on 4 COMPLETELY blown KYB OEM replacements shocks and 4 sagging springs. From that point on I knew I was in for a night and day improvement. Oddly enough the car still handled quite well, with lots of body roll, break dive, and bouncing. Oversteer was prominant and powerslides(I can't drift for real) were a daily occurance.
Now with the new suspension the car sits about an inch lower.(Further proof of saggy stock springs.) The ride is a lot stiffer but nowhere near as stiff as RX7club would have you believe. I could easily deal will a much stiffer spring and an adjustable shock.(Maybe on my next FC. I want a white coupe.) RSR springs and Tokico Illumina's or KYB AGX's are supposedly as stiff as you can go with off the shelf parts any thing stiff would require coil-overs. I avoid potholes and train tracks like the plague but only because I don't want to rape my oil pan and exhaust not because I'm scared of rattling my teeth out.
I handles like a dream. Well, in comparison to before. Any attempt to slide the car now just leads to loads of lateral grip and at the limits of traction the front tires will let out a howl just before they lost grip and you're met with understeer. I miss the powerslides, but I guess that just means I need more power. But that'll have to wait till some other time. I'm looking forward to doing some more suspension tuning.
-Camber Adjusters- To fix my nasty rear camber.(Though the alignment shop said it was that big of a deal with the way I drive as long as I didn't mind the car eating tires for lunch.)
-Wheels and Tires- I can fit 8 inch wide wheels all around but I'd have to search for a 16x8 wheel with like a +30ish offset. I don't want to do 17's cause can't even chirp the tires in second gear with my light stock BBS wheels. I just won't have the power to turn them and the car's slow enough as it is in a straight line.
blah, blah, blah. I'll holla at ya'll.
