Well, in my hometown, there is only one coffee place that comes anywhere near to being as good as Starbucks, and that place is called Espresso Yourself, a locally owned and operated hang-out. So one night a couple months ago, my group of friends was going out after my boyfriend's birthday party and we wanted to go there. So, we pulled up in two separate vehicles, my only friend who both has his license and owns a car drove the guys of the group, and we rode with someone's mom. When the guys pulled up, all the workers were sitting outside of the place a full two hours before "closing time"[that is a great song by the way, by semisonic]. these employees said that we had to all be sixteen to get in, which we all were. Then, without accepting proof, the head of the employee gang said that all the guys could go inside, but the girls (my two friends and I) could not go in because adults had brought us, which meant that we would have to be accompanied by an adult. This was bull, because the place has been around for two years, and we went there pretty much every weekend, and each time, got dropped off by a parent and proceeded inside - each time without being stopped - to drink delicious coffee and enjoy bands and other random things to keep ourselves entertained.
These guys really made all of us angry. We just wanted to get coffee and talk...We're not rowdy teens that would cause a raucous or break things or anything else of a rowdy nature. So we told them , if they weren't going to accept our business, we were just going to go to Cappuchino's, the next closest coffee house. So thanx to those lazy workers on that one night who didn't feel like going inside and making a couple of granitas, we now have boycotted the joint and even though we may go there to support our friend's bands, we never buy anything to support the coffee house...which saddens me, because they have awesome coffee, especially mocha with whipped cream...oh now i'm salivating. I've come close to breaking the boycott...but I don't want to give those workers the satisfaction. Oh! how i am craving their coffee though! I like the atmosphere better too...maybe I can convince my friends to end the boycott..because if we don't support the venue, our friend's bands won't have a place to play at to get the tips they need to buy new band equipment in order to compete with the other bands in the area to get their big break, and then we could say we knew them before they were famous, and supported them by supporting the great coffee house. Think they'll go for it? I guess it's worth a try.
