Oh wow. I mean, seriously, wow. I just watched the Stargate Atlantis episode The Shrine, perhaps SG:A's best episode yet. And, in fact, ever, since I just learned Atlantis has been cancelled and this season will be the last. This makes me sad, but the news that Stargate: Universe has been green-lit lessens the sorrow somewhat.
I'm a big Stargate fan. Did you know that? You do now. I have the first seven seasons of SG1 on DVD and will one day buy the eighth. After that the Ori become the bad guys and I never cared for the Ori, so I won't be getting seasons nine or ten, but they were still fun to watch. Stargate Atlantis has remained good throughout its sadly much shorter run of only five seasons. Stargate is how I geek out sci-fi style. Trek mostly passed me by and Wars is - to me - just three films and some cool games, but I get the Gate expanded universe. There's a MMORPG, Stargate: Worlds, in development and if there was no monthly fee I'd get it without a doubt. Even with a monthly fee I'm tempted. If I'm not on minimum wage when it comes out then maybe.
Speaking of MMORPGs, I played a little Guild Wars today. It's been quite a while since I last played, so I figured I'd just dance around pre-searing Ascalon with a new character, A Mesmer called Fork And Knife.
Now I can't hold on to a thrill, so MMOs aren't really my thing. Even Guild Wars I tend to play as more a of a single-player game that sometimes you share with other people. Diablo III is the next game I'm looking forward to the multiplayer elements of and they've said they're looking for the optimum number of people in a party to be between five and eight. Enough to have fun with some friends, but not enough to be piss easy when you all swarm together.
I don't understand why you don't all have Guild Wars. You know how much a cinema ticket costs? £6.75 at my cinema. Let's say you're watching The Return of the King or The Dark Knight. That's three to four hours. Guild Wars cost me £10 and I've spent a good few weeks on there when you add all the time up, I'm sure.
Instead of The Dark Knight, you could use your £6.75 to buy a ticket to Steve Carrell and Anne Hathaways' latest comedy, Get Smart. I wouldn't recommend it as The Dark Knight is a fantastic movie while Get Smart is only pretty good, but if you've already seen The Dark Knight twice and fancy a change, Get Smart would not be a bad decision. I laughed. Quite a lot. Not hysterically, but regularly. Working at the box office, I'd recommend this film to indecisives. Especially over the other comic offerings at the moment, Adam Sandler's ...Zohan and Martin Lawrence's College Road Trip. What is it with Martin Lawrence? He wants to be Eddie Murphy so bad, so when Murphy went from excellent to embarrassing, Lawrence decided to follow suit.
But anyway, Get Smart. Based on a 60's TV series I think, Steve Carrell plays Maxwell Smart - an analyst for counter-terrorist group CONTROL, who hopes to one day join the likes of Dwayne Johnson and Anne Hathaway as a field agent. When CONTROL is attacked, Smart's dream is realised and he must face off against KAOS, a terrorist group thought to have long since been defeated. It's funny and you'll laugh and go see it if you've nothing else to do. Anne Hathaway looks gorgeous. What's interesting though, is that after decrying Adamn Sandler and (recent) Eddie Murphy, I should note that Get Smart director Peter Segal's last four films have starred Adam Sandler, Adam Sandler, Adam Sandler and Eddie Murphy.
