I think I'm going to lose my job by October. I'd say 'just the projection part' but honestly I could care less about the rest of it. Sure I could stick it out at the cinema and try heading towards something more managerial. I reckon I've got the skills to pay those bills, but would I want to?
With the digital switchover happening there's less need for projectionists and I'm already surplus to needs. Part-time technicians are supposed to be signed off within one year, and that for me falls in October. No-one knows whether I'll be needed then, so no-one knows whether it's worth completing my training.
So what to do, what to do?
That sign language course is looking like an option again. Something to keep my mind occupied while I stay at the cinema figuring out my next direction. Might go for Team Leader if I lose projection, just for the slight pay bump and increased responsibility. Something else to look good on the CV.
Maybe I could start looking at what jobs are available in the film industry itself, rather than just the cinema industry. Maybe I should just get the hell on with writing and learn the fun way how hard it actually is to write a novel. Maybe I could answer phones at Aviva. Maybe South Korea will beat North Korea in the world cup final starting world war three and all of this will become irrelevant.
