Let's go! the only way we know! Is taking you out!

So in one week it will be Blog Like It's the End of the World 2010.

I missed last year, but here're my attempts for 2007, when it was launched by My Elves Are Different and 2008, when Blue Moon Rising took over. It's weird reading that 2007 one now, 'cause she's been Sam for so long it's strange to think anyone except Adrian ever called her Sammy.

BLITEOTW is one of the best internet things, and I'd like to see it gain in popularity. That said, I'd also like everyone on the internet to read my post and say it's the best thing ever and that's less likely to happen if Neil Gaiman, Cory Doctorow and Stephen Fry get involved. I like BLITEOTW when it's done well, and generally that means the author doesn't magically find a shotgun and charge headfirst through a horde of zombies trying to rescue the princess. I hate the ones where zombies appear and suddenly these bloggers become heroes. Do you know how I know we won't make great heroes? It's because we're bloggers. See I've had some experience battling the undead hordes and I know for a fact I would be screwed in a real zompocalypse. Five minutes running screaming and I'm quite out of breath.

Anyway, one week to go. Hope you all survive.

Right, so let's talk about Adventure Time! The Pendleton Ward animation I've linked to far too many times already on here was turned into a series for the Cartoon Network, and I've finally managed to find a copy of the first three episodes. It's great. I mean, it's not amazing like the original, but every so often something happens and I make this weird high pitched bwraah! noise, like when something is so ridiculous your laugh feels the need to be equally odd. The kind of laugh where even when you're alone in the house you still need to look round after and check that no-one heard. A good sort of laugh.

Friday I went to Cinema City and watched Brick director Rian Johnson's latest film, The Brothers Bloom. About halfway through I decided I would be buying the DVD on release day. It's truly something wonderful. Everything about it is great, from a technical and artistic point of view. We feel for every character precisely what Johnson wants us to, and the light hearted nature of it allows for quite a touching ending. Johnson really shines with the dialogue, much like he did in Brick. Every turn of phrase suits the genre perfectly. Also, I've fallen back in love with Rachel Weisz. It was nice going to Cinema City and not feeling uncomfortable for once. See, CinCity get the arthouse releases and smaller films my cinema doesn't get. Things that don't appeal to the masses. Recently, for me that's meant Dogtooth and Lebanon, both excellent pieces of cinema, but neither designed to make the viewer feel happy.

This lightness of spirit won't last long though, for tomorrow I go back there for a much darker release, Casey Affleck's latest The Killer Inside Me. It got high praise at the Sundance festival, although a lot of people did walk out, apparently shocked at the level of violence against women in the film. Sounds just dandy. Casey Affleck starred in Gone Baby Gone and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and in both he did a fantastic job at emotionally connecting us with a conflicted man. I'm hoping for something similar in this new one.

Lastly, I'm poor. I'm putting off my lifelong dream of one day owning a Blu-ray player I think until I move into the new house. I was supposed to be heading down to visit Steve yesterday, but in the morning £180 worth of bills arrived and with council tax due soon, I think I might soon be sliding into the red. Can't really afford the train and alcohol fares that would accompany such a visit. So lots of budgeting and compromising and settling for less for a few months. Ben, we need to talk money. Also cleaning. I was going to clean the kitchen and bathroom today and leave the other two downstairs rooms for you and there's still a chance of that, but it's looking more and more unlikely. Rather play Xbox and enjoy my time off. I still don't regret giving up those two shifts this weekend.
