Actually, the last line from Shinji should have been more like, "MY LOVER =D" Though, honestly, now that I think about it, I think the entire boner Shinji had for Kaworu was because he kind of looks like Kensuke (don't deny it, it's true) and since Kensuke was too busy jerking off to army planes and mechas (he'd SO have Gundam porn from before the Second Impact), he had to take the next best thing.
...personally, if I were in Shinji's position, I'd have gone for Toji. But that's just me. On the other hand, he'd have had to fight Hikari for him, though THAT would have made for an AWESOME catfight.
