THE INTERNET IS FOR...SCIENCE

Reading one of the latest wanks on FW (where some chick wrote a racist apologist essay that was pages upon pages long) was rather enlightening. Mostly to her frame of mind - replace "pureblood" with "white" and "mudblood" with "nigger," and it could do well as a white supremacist piece. (That comparison is accurate, as mudblood's the vulgar term for muggleborns. To say the least.)

I'm not saying that she's a racist IRL, no - I can't really know what her true feelings on race boundaries are. But, in the Potterverse, yes, she's a racist. A self-hating racist, because I feel that she'd most likely be a muggle or a muggle-born witch if canon were reality.

That said, mcity linked to a pretty interesting genetic analysis of wizardry. Personally, I think that the ability to use magic would be determined by multiple genes, if wholly determined by genetics. And there probably would be more than one gene, as people in the Potterverse fall into five categories:

Muggle (normal people - unable to use magic, both parents unable to use magic)
Muggleborn (wizard/witch with both muggle parents)
Halfblood (wizard/witch with one muggle parent)
Pureblood (wizard/witch with wizard ancestry)
Squib (unable to use magic, wizard ancestry)

Clicking around the comments, I found another entry on the same blog about a pandemic in WoW. EVERYONE HAS AIDS
