One Hundred Years of Solitude is excellent. I've been meaning to get around to Love in the Time of Cholera, because 1) I've heard it's also good and 2) It's in the movie Serendipity. Hey, I totally recommend to you "Straight Man" by Richard Russo...it made me laugh out loud and is completely ironic. Your type of book, totally. I'm now reading "Empire Falls" by Russo, but it's less laugh-out-loud funny and a little darker.

i really didn't like 100 years of solitude that much, actually. they're ALL named aureliano -- makes it so hard to follow the plot. gah. maybe i should try reading it in spanish...things are usually better in the original language, but i'm not really a fan of marquez -- i didn't like his short stories that much either. what'd you think, drew?

I actually agree with you 100%...really disappointing novel. I seem to remember really liking "Love in the Time of Cholera" though, but it's been over 3 years since I read it. One of these days I'll have to re-read it.
