the bank robbery claimed 3 lives while bella's dad used the town's only police car to pick her up..

the last time i saw mike and jen was two years ago when they stayed at my apartment and we went to comic con. i kind of can't believe i let two years go by without going to boston. i used to go there once a month for play dates and movie nights. still needing a break from life, and not liking that i had gone so long without seeing my friends, i coordinatated with mike to come up the weekend of jen's surprise baby shower.

so, friday i hopped a greyhound to boston and i was somehow lucky enough to get a seat to myself. the bus was an hour late but mike and jen picked me up from south station and jen is the cutest pregnant lady ever. things were immediately hilarious when we decided to spend the evening watching the rifftrax version of twilight. i think my favorite part was the benny hill music. their new house is way cute and i loved sleeping in the soon to be nursery and i felt bad that i kicked the cats out because apparently, cats love me.

after watching extremely poor man's cooking shows, we headed to jen's parents' house for her not-a-surprise-anymore-baby shower. i was looking forward to it but a little nervous because i didn't know a single person there aside from mike and jen, but jen's friends were really nice and funny, and i felt much better after meeting them.

later that day i went to cambridge for a walk down college memory lane with stephanie. it was weird being on the t again - i forgot it was so much cleaner than the nyc subways and the seats are all fancy now, with carpet or whatever. there were a ton of sailboats on the river and it looked really pretty as we passed it. i did get all nostalgic when i passed through park street, but i got even more nostalgic when i got to harvard square before steph did, so i decided to walk around my old stomping grounds. i knew the tower records would be gone but it's strange to know that it's now a verizon store. it's also strange that the pit is no longer filled with punk rock kids. the hardware store with the cool window displays is still going strong. i photographed those window displays once for my color photography class a million years ago. after i walked around i went into urban outfitters to kill some time and saw a new saved by the bell game that i kind of need. stephanie got there soon after so we caught each other up on our lives as we walked very slowly through newbury comics. and, as i've said, no trip would be complete without getting harassed by a crazy. while steph and i were perusing the comic books, a man interrupted us to ask if we had seen iron man 2, and then proceeded to tell us why we should see it, and even though he's "an old guy" he liked it, and babbled on about it for a few minutes before wandering away. apparently stephanie also suffers from crazy person attack syndrome, so the whole thing was inevitable. even though newbury comics isn't amazing or anything, i forgot how much i like it. i ended up finding the perfect birthday gift for my sister and some inexpensive stuff for myself. nothing like spending money i don't have on stuff i definitely don't need. [like pirate mad libs.]

i said hello to the tattoo shop that gave me my first tattoo and we made a quick stop at hootenanny which looks exactly the same and reminds me of jenny, and then drove over to porter square for dinner at my favorite burrito place on the planet. it sounds so stupid but i've been waiting four long years to eat at anna's taqueria again. after i moved home from boston, i was always on a burrito hunt, but nothing ever came close to being as good as anna's. still hasn't. i'm glad stephanie appreciates a good burrito and went there with me and talked about boys and fun times from college and life.

we parted ways after dinner and when i got back to mike and jen's we did one page of my newly acquired pirate mad libs, reminisced about old school movie nights and the people who used to be involved in them, and eventually called it a night.

after some coffee and more weird quincy tv, mike and jen drove me to south station where i realized i entered the wrong date on my bus ticket because i thought sunday's date was monday's date and had to pay 15 bucks to change it. i could have taken a chance and just played dumb with the whole thing as i got on the bus, but i knew if i had to get off the line and change it, i would have to either get on the bus after everyone else, or get on a different bus and i figured i'd go with the better safe than sorry approach. i don't know if the driver would have noticed the wrong date, but the bus was full and i wanted a window seat so i didn't mind just paying the extra money. i got to sit next to a lovely little girl who's mother sat across the aisle from us and at one point, the girl slept on her mom's lap so i had the space to myself for a while which was nice. we would have gotten in to port authority early but there was a street fair blocking whatever street the bus needed to be on, so we took a detour through times square and i still don't understand why there are bleachers in the middle of broadway.
