i went to the virginia/washington dc area this weekend with lauren, who had a work-related class, and didn't want to spend the drive/weekend by herself. i had planned on going into dc for most of the time, since lauren would be in her class during the day. little did i know, a huge snow storm was brewing, causing the entire vicinity to shut down, so i decided to stay at the hotel rather than risk getting stranded at the federal triangle. we did however, end up finding a porn being shown on hbo. classy.
i've been basically trapped in our hotel room [with the occasional trip to the lobby] and it's been snowing since about noon yesterday and isn't supposed to stop until about 9 tonight. there's supposedly two feet of snow outside and i'm tempted to go play in it. but i won't.
anyway, what better use of all of this free time than to discuss the return of
before my random thoughts and rants begin i just want to say that i thought it was a great episode. i didn't love it, but i liked the new questions it raised and the one answer it semi-gave.
what is the significance of jack's neck randomly bleeding on the plane?
i still and will always love rose and bernard. cutest tv couple ever.
why is desmond on the plane? he's supposed to be in the hatch.
the whole 'through the water' sequence in the beginning felt very tim burton-ish but not in a good way and why is the foot/island now underwater and who put it there?
i also enjoyed the brief return of dr. artz. i love that guy.
i like that in the back to the future 2-like alternate reality, hurley is happy and actually very lucky.
i thought it was cool that the aaron burr milk commerical/death by flaming arrow guy was back and sleeping next to locke. and then yelling at kate. my sister said they should have put nikki and paulo in the background or given them a line or two, which, in my opinion, would have been genius, even though i hated them more than you'll ever know.
why did they dramatically wait to show charlie's face when sayid kicked the bathroom door open? like we wouldn't know it was him from the chipped black nail polish or, i don't know the DRIVE SHAFT RING? i also think it was funny that charlie didn't have lost hair, he had flashforward hair.
i loooove that we finally, finally! know what the smoke monster is. i think i had some ideas about it last season, when taller ghost alex told ben to listen to anything john locke said. so am i right to assume that taller ghost walt was the smoke monster practicing it's shape shifting skills?
i wasn't surprised by juliet's death, but i thought it was annoying that she was still alive at first and then died like five minutes later. i feel like she could have died in the finale and miles could have still "talked" to her to find out that the bomb worked.
more thoughts on juliet:
a] how in the bloody hell was she still alive anyway?
b] fine, she's alive. not a single broken bone? i don't think so.
so last season during all the flashes, when jin was with the french team and that one guy got pulled down under the wall and lost his arm, the smoke monster just left him there? also, the hole didn't seem to be that high, he could have just climbed out.. although i guess that might be hard for a guy with one arm.
and not to be gross, but when kate went to the bathroom, wouldn't the marshall get a little suspicious when he didn't hear her peeing?
also, why does it seem so hard for kate to get out of the airport? just go outside already.
what is it with this island? every time you turn the corner there's another set of others waiting to beat you up. how many people are on this island anyway? and how do they get there?
and what's with cindy? she was with the original others when sawyer and kate were in the cages and now she's with these weirdos? and why doesn't she have a problem with the fact that she's been kidnapped and has to do weird things like build runways and stand by while her crew drowns people in a pool of cola?
when sayid was shot during the finale last year, i remember thinking i'd be okay with it if he was killed off, because his story is kind of over. but then when he wasn't dead but then those weird guys drowned him for unknown reasons, i thought it was pretty lame that that's how he'd go out, since he once broke a guy's neck with his legs. i kind of hate that kate made jack stop trying to resuscitate sayid. if he stopped trying to save charlie back in season 1, he would have been dead long before the looking glass ever came along. but now that he's not really dead, do you think that jacob's soul or whatever is now in sayid? i wonder if that's jacob's loop hole..?
the scene between locke and jack at the airport reminds me of why locke was my favorite since day one. i also like how nice he and jack are being to each other, and i wonder if they'll continue with the "nothing is irreversible" storyline. it would be pretty cool if in this reality, jack is able to fix locke and they become friends.
i think it will be interesting to see how the new storyline plays out, with the safe landing and everything. my only big question with that though, is, claire was going to LA to give her baby up to non-existent parents, so i wonder what will happen with that now? i did like how some characters still gravitated towards each other, like kate and sawyer, and locke and jack..
