An unexpected side effect of reading hockey fic is that I've found myself missing the time when I was a sports fan and followed multiple football codes closely. Alas yes, it is really only on Foxtel, which is a gigantic pain now that I no longer live in a dwelling with such things. Hadn't thought that far through it, but its the only thing I do follow to recommend :)

I second the rugby union recommendation as a better second option than AFL.

Or cricket, but that may only be me and my lifelong addiction talking.
