Quite a while ago now I talked about an SBS show called The Circuit. Now I'm talking about and posting it again, because it's an excellent show and everyone should watch it. I especially think that those who liked East West 101 will enjoy it.
The Circuit
What's it about?
Drew Ellis, an Aboriginal lawyer from the city, goes bush and joins the Kimberley Circuit Court as a legal-aid defence lawyer. He's middle class, has a white wife, was raised by a white family and is disconnected from his heritage. The first series follows Drew's reactions to life in the Kimberley, the conflict between his old life and life on the circuit, the conflict between two cultures, and Drew's discovery of his heritage. The second series explores the same themes in more depth and gives more insight into the lives of some of the supporting characters and the challenges they face.
Who are the characters/actors?
Drew Ellis (played by Aaron Pedersen)
Sam Wallen (Kelton Pell) is Drew's mentor and, after a rocky start, friend. He's a lawyer, a former alcoholic, and is struggling to keep his son from heading down a destructive path.
Bella Noble (Tammy Clarkson) is the court clerk. She's a strong-willed, vibrant, single mother who is working for a better life. She's one of my favourite female characters in a long time.
Peter Lockhart (Gary Sweet) is the court judge. He believes in the law and in being fair, but he manages to piss people off left, right, and centre. Peter's been in the circuit for a long time and does his best to negotiate between cultures, but doesn't always succeed.
Ellie Zdybicka (Marta Kaczmarek) is another of the legal aid defence lawyers. She's Polish, the survivor of an abusive relationship and a strong advocate for the women and children of the communities the circuit travels through.
Archie McMahon (Nick Simpson-Deeks), a journalist who followed his Aboriginal boyfriend back to the Kimberleys. He's hot-headed, passionate and not afraid to stir up trouble.
How many episodes are there?
Only 12 - 6 episodes a season. Not a big time commitment at all. There are rumours of a third season, but no confirmed information.
Where can I get it?
Please feel free to download it and share the link. Like East West 101 I want to see this show getting the appreciation it deserves. And I'd love to hear your thoughts on it as well. ETA: please let me know if you have problems with any of the files.

This isn't a comedy, though it has funny moments. It's a drama, and an excellent one. At times it deals with spousal abuse, child abuse, alcoholism and violence. I'm not ashamed to admit it has made me cry great big heaving sobs. It's broken my heart and put it together again.
