Catch-up

My holidays have been lovely; I spent a bunch of time with family and friends, slept a lot, got a copy of Grimm's Fairy Tales for Christmas, drank too much on NYE, and have sore arms from Wii boxing.

Of course many things end with a bang and Mayhem provided that spectacularly.

The day I got home I noticed his left eye was quite squinty and pollymel mentioned that it had been that way since the morning. After a bit of a look, I decided that I would wait to see how it was in the morning before going to the vet.

Cue drama.

The next morning Lennie woke me up with the news that Mayhem had (another) live snake downstairs - bringing the total number of snakes to 2 dead and 2 alive. I stumbled out of bed to find Mayhem staggering a bit and pawing desperately at his eye. The silly little bastard had managed to be bitten twice on the eye by a white-crowned snake.

Lennie, wonderful housemate that she is, had trapped the extremely cranky snake under a bucket, so I bundled Mayhem off to the vet (unshowered and appallingly clothed), borrowing the fabulous Julad's car to get him there. When I got back we manoeuvred the snake outside and dumped flung it in the garden. Then we came back inside and discovered blood smeared all over the tiles where the cat and the snake had got into it - thankfully it was all the snake's.

The aftermath equals one very sullen, depressed and grumpy cat who has two types of eye drops, one set of anitbiotic pills, and is under house arrest for 5 days.

House arrest is proving to be a problem; he should have been named Houdini instead. I'd say he's finally learnt a lesson, but I doubt it.

Sydney folk, it was great to see you. engenda and hnix, was it only Gossip Girl that I was going to burn for you?
