Danny and Lindsay's Apartment, Saturday into Sunday

May 21, 2006 04:36

Danny tossed in his sleep, his hands clenching tightly into the bedsheets. He was used to nightmares, dealt with them on a regular basis. But this one was just vicious.

An explosion. Windows and doors blown out, debris flying everywhere. Lindsay getting thrown backwards from the force, legs kicking out in defense before she landed hard on concrete. Danny tried to run to her, but couldn't, instead finding himself inside with Don, too close to the epicenter of the blast. Way too close, and Don didn't even have time to yell out before he flew back against a collapsing wall, pieces of the bomb and other debris tearing gaping holes in flesh, ripping apart skin Danny knew too well. Blood. So much blood, pumping out so quickly, and in his dream, Danny could do nothing but watch as Mac tried to save his best friend. Don was gray, so gray and pale and not moving except for the shivering that signaled the shock setting in. Mac was muttering under his breath, something that sounded like "Stay with me," even as Danny realized Don was losing the battle. Mac cursed softly, pulling his bloodstained hands away from Don and Danny could feel the horror, a chill going down his spine when Don started saying his name.

He gasped for air and fought his way out of the blankets, shaking. Danny could still hear his name being said, but now it was Lindsay's voice, Lindsay's hands holding him in the darkness. Swallowing hard, he rubbed his hand over his eyes. "I'm awake, I'm awake. I.. just a nightmare, Montana."

"You kept saying Don's name.."

Reaching behind him, Danny groped for his glasses, squeezing them tightly in his damp fingers before shoving them on his face. He nodded slightly. "He was in it. He.. you. You're not hurt, are you?"

Lindsay took his hands in hers, bringing them to her lips and kissing each palm. "You tell me, cowboy."

Danny could see her worried smile in the dim room. He cupped her face, able to feel his hands shaking as he leaned over and kissed her tenderly. "Need to call him. Need to hear.." He whispered into her lips, wetting his own as she pulled away.

Next thing he knew, she was closing his fingers over his cell phone. Danny mumbled a thanks and hugged himself with his free arm, hitting the speed dial for Flack's New York apartment as Lindsay pulled him close.

"Flack," said the sleepy voice on the other end of the line.

"Donny?" Danny asked quietly, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.

Don muttered a curse into the phone. Danny could imagine it in his head, Don rolling over to check the time on the clock, reaching over to turn on the light. When the other man managed to speak, it nearly made Danny laugh with relief. "Christ, Dan, it's 4 in the morning. On my day off."

Danny sighed, closing his eyes. "Needed to make sure you were okay. I.. ah, I had this nightmare..."
