ok heres the very professional review im providing you all with:
first hand- the game was amazing. ive found a new love for hockey after it died away wen my red wings took that terrible break. (they still havent fully recovered). i walked into the joe expecting a crowd of primarily yellow people. to my extremely pleasing surprise, green had just as much representation as u of m. In fact, most of the u of m fans were either kids under the age of 14 and over the age of 50. i couldtn help but notice the amazingly good looking msu fans (they looked like college guys so o well lmao). we were seated for a mere 5 minutes wen two huge "M" and "S" were being projected to dance across the ice. people screamed, and from that point on the echoes of "go green! go white!" were yelled over and over. seriously, the team spirit blew me away. U of M took the ice first, greeted with a mixture of cheers and boos- msu, likewise. MSU's assistant captain, was needless to say, my favorite player. his number was 2(my lucky number), and his name was potter (my fav book). the goalie for msu was gorgeous, just so u no. now, onto the game itself: u of m scored first, as yellow from everywhere rose from their seats. msu scored next, and green lept up. then u of m scored, then msu. eventually it was tied 3-3. now, leme tell u, theres a CLEAR and UNDENIABLE difference btwn college and professional hockey. this game was very sloppy, with players randomly falling and one player on msu kept swinging at the puck and missing entirely. the game continued and u of m scored 2 times in a row. thats it, we thought it was over, until msu scored and we had a little bit of hope. the crowd rose from their seats agen, and this time wen i sat back down i noticed how funny the seats were built. air builds up in the back of the seat so wen u sit back down, it gets squeezed out as ur back slowly presses against the hard wood of the chair. its hard to explain, but a very odd feeling. msu just couldnt keep the puck out of their zone so i kept making hand gestures, such as pushing my palms toward the opposite side of the rink. im sure this helped them realize they should be going toward the u of m zone. yup, ill take credit for their new found sense of direction. we got rather frustrated as only a couple minutes were left and the score was 5-4, so we left. some obnoxious u of m fans (rnt they all!) couldnt help but say "thats rite, leave" as we descended the phenomenally steep stairs. once back in the car we turned on the Spartans Network on the radio and couldnt believe it. MSU had tied it up and we were now in overtime. my beautiful favorite, potter got a penalty so u of m had a power play with just 1 minute to go. it ended in a tie. afterwards we went to bennigans to celebrate. u of m hasnt beaten state yet. theyve had a record of 3 ties this season, all to msu in hockey. that made me happy.
about detroit: as we drove toward joe louis arena, i noticed how wonderful the city looked. they REALLY cleaned it up for the super bowl. seriously, it looked like a real city. i couldnt believe my eyes.
