"he turned 44" because it's a single-moment type thing, i guess. he turned 44 at midnight. "has turned" would be more like "he has turned green on a few occasions"... something like that.

anyway, it's good to see you're back online! you missed a GREAT show that night. we'll have to do Rocky Horror this summer. rocky horror "virgins" get spanked before the show... only if you admit it, though. fun times this summer, while i'm still home!!
