Should I break one?

Windows 7 RC isn't too shabby. I'm using the 64 bit version.

It does seem to load up faster, but most of the software I'm running on it is still of the 32-bit variety. (Win7 has a compatibility layer that allows users to run older programs, just as XP and Vista do.) The new taskbar looks like it was lifted partly off of KDE and Gnome, two desktop environments that Linux and BSD users are familiar with.

As Win7RC's running on the same laptop PC that I have Vista on, I can run some programs without reinstalling them on Win7's partition.

Overall I'm not sure if I'd upgrade to 7 at this point... I'd rather do a clean install, if I could be bothered to pay $200 for the Premium version. Going the upgrade path is okay for most folks, but a fresh install (or a new PC with the newer OS) is better. For now, I'll stick to Vista for Windows, as I don't see much difference in performance overall. IE 8 seems to run slightly faster in Win7, though.

If I do buy or build a new desktop machine sometime, I'd definitely want 7 on it, right alongside a couple of Linux partitions.
