Summary: Sungmin finally accepted that it is over with Kyuhyun. For the first time after the break-up he finally gets the courage to live life again. How far is he really healed? Or a chance encounter can make him think otherwise.
7 PM at the Choi family’s dining room.
Dr. Choi: Umma where is Siwon? I have something important to tell him regarding Kyuhyun.
Mrs. Choi: He is just upstairs he just got home from church an hour ago. Don’t worry he’ll be coming down soon. I told him we would eat dinner early tonight.
Dr. Choi: Alright, I really pity Sungmin. That kid loves Kyuhyun so much… and yet Kyuhyun’s mother can’t seem to let go of his son. Kyuhyun is old enough to make decisions by himself but she dominates him more now especially because of the lost memories due to the accident.
Mrs. Choi: You are right dear. I have always liked Sungmin too. He is such a sweet and gentle boy. I use to always tease him that he should have been born a girl because of his fox like eyes and small pink lips. And he would just blush up to his ears and say Auntie please stop teasing me.
Footsteps can be heard coming down the stairs leading towards to the dining hall.
Dr. Choi: Siwonnie!
Siwon: Dad I think it is not appropriate for you to call me that. I am an adult now.
Dr. Choi: Whatever you say son. I was just joking around. You seemed really serious just now that’s why.
Siwon: Haha alright Dad.
Dr. Choi: Siwon, Kyuhyun is leaving to go to America tomorrow. I think Sungmin has the right to know this.
Siwon: Why is Kyuhyun going to America?
Dr. Choi: They will seek a new medical treatment to make Kyuhyun’s memories come back sooner. Mr. Cho had decided to this… I think he is the more understanding one with regards to the sufferings Kyuhyun is feeling right now. The absence of memories is mind boggling indeed.
Siwon: That’s great news his memories will be back soon. Oppa how long will he stay there?
Dr. Choi: That will depend on how Kyuhyun will respond to the treatment. Only God knows how long his amnesia will truly last.
Siwon: I think Sungmin hyung will understand the reason why Kyuhyun has to leave. I’ll give him a call after dinner.
Mrs. Choi: Okay now that everything is cleared out let’s eat.
At that the maids started to bring the food one by one. Dakgalbi, bulgogi, and kimchi ramen soup.
Meanwhile at the Cho Mansion
Kyuhyun is packing his things in his room. He is off to go to America tomorrow. His father has talked with some specialist at Harvard University. He hopes to get his memory back and is looking forward to go back to the life he use to have. He was getting coats and jackets at his closet when something caught the corner of his eye. There was something fluffy inserted in between boxes above the closet hanger. His slim fingers slowly took hold of the object and yanked it free. The thing that he’s holding in his hands is a pink bunny with a heart embroidered to its chest with a gold stitching formed into an S. Kyuhyun felt puzzled is this bunny his or someone gave it to him? Then he felt pain from his temple, as a flashback occurred in his mind. The night he met the accident he was holding a balloon shaped as a bunny as well. It could only mean two things this bunny is given by him by that person or this is a gift he intended to give that person. Well whatever it may be looking at the bunny for the first time in a long while he felt some kind of relief. Just like that Kyuhyun smiled and said to no one in particular:
“I will find you, you just have to wait and believe in me.”
Sungmin is walking down the street holding some vegetables and meat he bought in the market. He used to surprise Kyuhyun with a delicious lunch or dinner that made doing this chore enjoyable. Nowadays it is more like a routine he has to do in order for him to survive. Eating is now just a physiologic need of the body nothing more nothing less. He’s mind was wondering too much that he didn’t notice that his phone is ringing.
Suddenly a little kid tugged Sungmin’s jacket and a surprised Sungmin looked at the girl’s eyes.
Oppa, your phone is ringing it might be important but you’re not answering it.
Touched by the little girl’s gesture he kneeled to the little girl’s level and kissed her cheek.
The little girl blushed and said: Oppa! I’ll marry you someday and started to ran and waved goodbye.
He smiled kids are so cute! They are so adorable. One day I would like to have one myself. Then his phone started to ring again and this time he answered the call.
Siwon: Hyung, it’s me. I have to tell you something.
Sungmin: Siwonnie, what is the matter?
Siwon: Hyung, Kyuhyun is leaving tomorrow to go to America.
Sungmin: What?! Why? I never troubled them since the accident now why do they want to take Kyu away?
Siwon: Hyung, please relax. It is not actually bad news, Kyuhyun is going to be treated in America so he could get his memories back.
Sungmin: Really? Will that mean he will be able to remember me too?
Siwon: Yes hyung, he will be able to remember everything that has happened in the past but I am not sure how long he will have to stay there for the treatment.
Sungmin: Thank you Siwon… I really appreciate what you’re doing for me and looking out after Kyuhyun at the same time. I am forever in debt with your kindness. I should be ashamed I owe you a lot and you are my dongseng it makes me such a bad hyung to you.
Siwon: Sungmin hyung what are you talking about this is nothing I am just doing what a true friend should. I will never let you and Kyuhyun down remember that.
Sungmin: What time is he leaving tomorrow?
Siwon: His flight leaves at 1 PM at the Incheon International Airport.
Sungmin: Okay Siwon, thanks for all your help. Goodbye.
At that Sungmin ends the call and starts to walk home. You have to be strong Sungmin. Even if you don’t see Kyuhyun for a of couple months you have to endure it because in the end he will be able to remember everything and this nightmare will finally stop. Soon you will be with your one true love.
He slowly opens the gate and goes inside. He walks toward the front door moves the pot on the ground and gets the key of the door. Slid it into the whole and clicked the lock and turned the knob of the door. He reaches for the light of the hallway and sighed out loud.
“I’m just here waiting, you know where to find me just follow your heart”
At that he turns around and closed the door.
February 14
A ringing of an alarm can be heard in the bedroom upstairs. The small man sleeping swatted the alarm with full force using his hand making the clock fall from the night table to the floor. The man scratched his head and slowly got up from the bed and bent down to retrieve the fallen alarm clock. It blinks 11:30 AM. Surprised at how much he has overslept Sungmin started to panic. He quickly took a bath and put on the first pair of jeans and t shirt his hands can find. Why??!! Of all days this is the day where I get a decent sleep where I have to go someplace early!!! He stormed out of the door, locked it and started to run. He stops at the intersection and sees the slow flow of traffic. Aisshh… how could he forget today is Valentine’s day everybody is out celebrating, public transportation will be one hell of a jungle to deal with. Aha! He says victorious from his brilliant idea, I could take the train to go to the Airport. At that Sungmin bravely braced himself and started to run at the direction of the train station.
Incheon International Airport, Seoul, South Korea
Mr. Cho: Kyuhyun, are you hungry dear? Do you want to eat something before we take off?
Kyuhyun: I’m fine Dad. I’m just scared and excited about what will happen to me.
Mr. Cho: You’ll be alright Kyuhyun. It will take time but your memories will surely come back.
Kyuhyun: But what if not all of my memories come back?
Mr. Cho: Son I know you are scared but you have to believe that God has a reason for this. He would never give an obstacle you would not be able to surpass. Kyuhyun you have to have faith.
Kyuhyun: Thank you Dad for doing this. For giving me my life back.
Mr. Cho: I could never take the sight of you having no memories at all. I don’t know how much pain you might have felt but I will never let you experience that pain again. That’s why even if your Umma will get mad at me. I had to find a way to bring back your memories.
A tear fell from Kyuhyun’s eyes as he hugs his father tight.
Kyuhyun: Oppa, saranghae.
A message can be heard at the speakers. This train will be arriving at the Incheon International Airport in 5 minutes. Sungmin kept quiet. Hoping he would make it on time. Please God let me see Kyuhyun before he leaves. After a while the train stopped and Sungmin walked into the platform and went up the escalator, dodging other people who were in a hurry themselves. He looks at the big screen showing flight schedules. Kyuhyun’s flight has started boarding at gate number 28. At that he started running once again… the airport seems to go on and on… and poor Sungmin is starting to have shortness of breath.
Finally he arrives at gate 28. There were no more passengers in the lobby of the departure area and the stewardess is announcing: Last boarding call for Flight 174. All passengers are advised to board the plane as the plane will be leaving shortly. Sungmin was going to burst into tears when a young man rushing to the desk hit his shoulder and he falls to the floor.
Kyuhyun was standing right infront of Sungmin. Sungmin stared at Kyuhyun as Kyuhyun held out his hand to help him up.
Kyuhyun: Sorry I’m really late. I must go.
At that he turns around and walks away leaving a speechless Sungmin.
