UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE go to see the movie ALEXANDER. Do not go see this movie because it is by far the worst movie of 2004.
If you really want to see it wait for dvd because spending $14 on that 3 hour piece of shit will leave feeling fucked. I cannot find enough awful words to describe the long, horrible suckiness of this movie. It was just plain bad.
It was like a 3 hour soap opera. The music was exaggerated, the acting was exaggerated (and mediocre) and the directing was shameful. Anyone who saw Phone Booth with Colin Farrell would have expected a very powerful performance but these people (as I was) will be truly dissappointed.
Unlike other American warrior bockbusters (like Gladiator and Troy) Alexander was not able to stir that same powerful inspiration in me. The movie was not able to capture "the greatness" of Alexander. Moreover, you were not presented with any motivation behind the characters nor were you shown the structure of any personal relationships. You can't understand why his wife is so devoted to him, you aren't presented with why Alexander wanted to conquer the world, you are not shown why his mother hates his father or how Alexander and his friend became lovers.
For a movie that is supposed to (i assume) capture "the greatness" of Alexander the Great it is a complete failure. I (nor do I think anyone in the audience with me) was not convinced that Alexander was a great and powerful ruler.
and what the fuck was with him being poisoned to death but you don't know who did it and why. Nor was anyone was organized to takeover his throne. And that scene where everthing is red - I am ashamed of oliver stone.
