Come and Get Your Love

So I just saw Guardians of the Galaxy. I am very pleased with the way it came out.

I love the soundtrack for this movie. Every song made me feel pumped up for the scene and worked perfectly. I am also very amazed that his tapes lasted 20 years and that they survived the ship's explosion.

I love the way Gamora and Nebula came out. I love Gamora as a character, woman who takes no shit from anyone and knows nothing more than death. I know it is a bit of a marvel cliche to have the antagonist siblings or friends, but I really am a sucker for the cliche. I would have liked more to see a little bit of Nebula's perspective to show why she would not do what Gamora had done and side with the Guardians. I get that Thanos wasn't exactly a loving father to his daughters, you really can't be when you slaughter whole planets to win the affections of Death, but I am kind of curious how their upbringing worked. Like did they find solace in one another or were they pitted against each other in a competition? What changed to make Gamora marginally more compassionate than her sister?

I would love to see Gamora and Natasha meet each other one day since they both share such a similar upbringing. It would be interesting to see Natasha be more well adjusted than someone who was also raised by a traumatized father and see them work together as badass assassins. I think they would be slow to trust each other, but eventually would realize they were alike and get along with a wordless understanding between them.

Likewise I think it would be great for Thor, Gamora, and Clint to sit down and just have a discussion about how siblings really suck. All of them try so hard to believe and give their siblings extra chances and it never works out in their favor, though Thor's is more grey than the other ones as at least Loki sometimes helps and sometimes just says "fuck it, let 'em burn". I can just picture them all sitting in a bar and swapping horror stories about growing up with a sibling who they would later have to fight and now wants to kill them. Like there would be endearing stories, though Gamora's endearing stories would most likely disturb the other two even though she would be laughing with nostalgia about them learning how to kill things using only their bare hands and a silk scarf. All of them would be from very different planets so the rituals that they would have gone through just because of their culture would probably clash. It would also give perspective on how different the worlds all are.

Groot is amazingly adorable. I never thought I would get so attached to a tree that only says "I am Groot" (Or "We are Groot" in the heartbreaking scene with Rocket. My heart ached at that scene.), but he came out like a loveable doof. He gave menacing looks and then would just give a friendly smile like a dog looking for affection. I know his history in the comics is that he is essentially an immortal, but I don't know if he will have limitations in the movies.

Star Lord has a nice voice and I think really pulled the whole movie together. He said a lot of the lines that you wish you could say when trouble went down and I have to give him credit for having the balls to just do ridiculous things even when it looks like certain death was at his doorstep. I suppose when you are going to die anyway you might as well start dancing and singing and hope that it works. Heh.

Drax' comedy was perfect and I loved the antagonistic relationship that he had with Rocket. His super literal speech is a sense of humor that is hard to pull off without making the character seem stupid and I think they accomplished that goal. You could see how he was a simple man deep down and didn't get how complex and deep the world could be. Also his tattoos looked amazing.

I am curious about the power Infinity Stone and how it changed the Guardians. I have a feeling it might have changed all the Guardians that held onto it on a deeper level than they realize- like it supercharged them. I also am curious if the red aether stone (reality, I believe) is still in The Collector's possession or if it somehow got moved in the explosion caused by the power stone. If it was lost that would be an easy way for Thanos to get his first gem, because he needs at least one to get his movie running (which I am assuming will be Avengers III because they have been building to it since Cap. I)
