"Look at my room. My precious room," Professor Binns moaned, "I had it just perfect and now I'm going to have to rearrange it and clean it all again." He looked at Serverus and Remus, noticing that they were still there, "I'm glad at least two of you stayed calm when the whole school was going crazy. Those boys will get extra punishment for ruining my room. I'll expect your essay a week from now." He waved them away.
Remus followed Serverus out of the room. Snape felt that he should say something, anything, but found that no words came to mind. Finally one did. "Thanks," he said gruffly before purposely taking another passage. It took him a lot longer to get back to his house, but it was worth it. At least this way he didn't have to say anything else.
A week later things were back to normal. James, Sirius, and Peter had gotten two weeks of detention and were damn proud of it. Remus had gotten a new wand as an apology from Sirius for nearly lighting him on fire and neither he nor Serverus had said a word to each other since then. James and Sirius were back to their old tricks and mockeries of Serverus and he was back to aiming his hatred with a renewed strength at them. Serverus liked it better this way. The less time he had to linger on his feelings, the better.

I like your Severus. He feels very Severus to me. I knew you would do well with him, when you told me your reasons for not wanting to pair him up at first.

The last line is probably my favourite in the whole fic... (even over Remus tackling him which made me grin).

The less time he had to linger on his feelings, the better, is just such a great way to look at young Severus and what made him the man he eventually becomes. Thanks for writing this for me. I really enjoyed it, and sorry for taking so long to respond back to it. I get so easily distracted these days.
