The day was bright and pleasantly warm, a normal summer day. Kyo stood outside Shinya's house dressed in a T-shirt and jeans and rang the doorbell. Upon hearing no answer he rang again. Nothing happened. This was odd; Shinya was never one to stand people up. Kyo cupped his hands and began to yell. "Shinya, I'm here. The door 's locked. Shinya!" Kyo sat down on the railing and waited for fifteen minutes. Finally he got annoyed and went back his car.
He started the car with one hand and with the other input Shinya's phone number into his cell. When nobody picked up he left a message, "Shiyna. This is Kyo. We were supposed to hang out today, remember. Where were you?" He hung up and muttered some insult under his breath. Shinya was always so secretive that it made everything a lot harder to find out, including finding out logical reasons why he would stand a friend up.
When he got home Kyo saw the answering machine blinking. He pressed the button and went to the refrigerator to get a glass of water. The first message was some telemarketer. The second one was a hang-up. The third message made him stop mid-drink. It was Toshiya,"Kyo, Shinya's been in an accident. As far as I know, he's stable, but he was pretty banged up by the accident. He's at Mercy hospital, if you want to call or visit."
Kyo quickly put the cup down on the table and grabbed his keys from the table by the door.
It was 8:00 when he reached the hospital. He went to the front desk. "Hello can you tell me what room Terachi Shinya is in?"
The woman stared at him, obviously not liking to have someone so eccentric looking in a place that was supposed to be calm and peaceful, "Are you a family member?"
Kyo shook his head.
"Well then I'm sorry sir, but we can't let you in. Only family members can visit people." Kyo cursed under his breath and started to head dejectedly towards the doors. Then out of the corner of his eye he saw a coat closet. He smirked to himself.
It took half an hour for a family to arrive that Kyo felt he could blend into. Casually he slipped out of the closet now wearing a hat to conceal the red stripe in his hair and a coat to make himself even less recognizable. The family didn't even notice as he latched on to them and slid into the elevator while the lady at the front desk wasn't looking.
He got out on the fourth floor and asked the people at the desk there what room Shinya was in. The people on this floor were willing to tell him. Kyo thanked them and rode two floors up on the elevator.
His eyes widened and a shock went through him as he saw Shinya lying, wounded in the bed. The drummer's right arm and leg were both broken. There were cuts on his face and a pouch of blood was running into his arm. He had expected it to be bad, but it was still somewhat of shock to see it in reality. Kyo quickly walked over, the hat flying off of his head as did so. He knelt by the left side of bed and gently shook Shinya's shoulder. "Shinya, wake up," he said worriedly when it appeared that shaking alone wasn't working.
Slowly Shinya's eyes opened and he smiled as he saw Kyo, "I'm glad they let you in," he said.
Kyo felt relief go through him as he heard Shinya speak, "They couldn't keep me out if they tried."
"How'd you find me?" Shinya asked, lightly grabbing hold of Kyo's hand.
"Toshiya called me and told me where you were. What the hell happened?"
"I was in an accident." Shinya said bluntly.
Kyo sighed, "I know that. I mean what type of accident were you in?"
"I was hit from the side by someone speeding through a red light. No need to worry, I'll be fine." He added, seeing that Kyo looked concerned.
"If there's anything I can do to make things easier, just let me know."
"Well-" Shinya paused while he tried to find the right words.
"Come on, you can ask me anything. I'm your friend, remember?" Kyo prodded, seeing the uncomfortable look on his friend's face.
Reply
"I promise I won't get offended." Kyo said, placing one hand over his heart.
"I don’t think you’ll feel the same after I tell you and I warn you this is going to sound a bit odd.” Shinya took a deep breath before continuing, “Getting hit by that car made me realize something: that I'd better start living life while I'm alive because you never know when tragedy will hit. So my request is that you give me a kiss."
"A kiss?" Kyo stared incredulously at his friend.
"I'm sorry. It was a foolish request. Just forget I asked." Shinya looked down into his lap, ashamed of himself.
Kyo stood up a little and lifted the drummer's chin. “I don't think I can do that," he said before gently kissing Shinya.
Shinya smiled and breathed a sigh of relief.
The singer stood up to leave. "We’ll figure all this out once you’re better. So get better soon and next time I show up at your house you better not stand me up," he said jokingly.
Shinya laughed, "Sure. And Kyo?"
"Yes?" Kyo turned his head to look over his shoulder.
"Could you please feed Miyu for me?"
Kyo laughed, "What are friends for?"
