Hmm. Both Gorillaz albums are very good. You should buy them, or at least dled them.

I've walked down the hall a few times and noticed one of the bulletins that the RA's put up that reads "Why are you still smoking?".. which proceeds to give a list of reasons why it should be inappropriate to do so. All of which uphold a strong argument for it being destructive to one's health and yada yada yada. When I see this sign I get the urge to just put up my own sticky note on it saying, "It's about personal choice". I think occasionally it baffles some people to think that maybe not every one has this all encompassing desire to live forever. We are so obsessed in this country with health and beauty that idea of someone not wanting to pursue that is considered ignorant and stupid. People know the effects of cigarette smoking, we've all had it drilled into our heads since we were children... but yet, people continue to smoke.

And I'm not to pleased with this talk about second-hand smoke. I'm fairly certain that cars and factories release many more toxic chemicals than cigarette smoke. You don't hear about global warming from smokers... lol. The argument does however change in extreme situations that are day by day reoccurring, but casually walking by smokers... not a chance.

I saw a anti-drug commercial the other day that was supposedly advocating personal freedom, when it was actually advocating the opposite. They used the idea of "the right to choose" by showing teenager being peer pressured into different groups and using drugs. In the end he chose not to use and walked away looking accomplished. If the guy was feeling curious and chose to actually go ahead and experiment with drugs, this commercial would not be on the air. So it very obviously wasn't a commercial about choice. When did the idea of personal freedom get mixed in with the idea of abstaining from 'sin'?

I'm not really an avid smoker, nor have I done any drugs except smoking weed once or twice a year (which doesn't count in the drug category). I just get baffled by all the advertisements that insist people live the perfect "leave it to beaver"-style lives. I understand the feeling of needing to educate the population of a danger that they are unaware of (like cigarettes used to be) but it's turned into this debate on who is more ignorant or cowardly for choosing to do so.

Also, this new quarter tax on soda because it's unhealthy is ridiculous as well. In this land of the free you can have personal freedom, but you are going to pay a price for it.

I don't hate America. There are a lot of bad things and a lot of good things... for instance the fact that I can sit on this computer right now, give my thoughts and be typing on a full stomach. I think we are a nation of good intentions, but usually don't understand an effective way to pursue them. It's a shame........

I really dislike the media.
