My family was able to help me out so I was pretty lucky. I applied as an international student but I was a special case because I didn't need to come early and get visas and stuff in order because I have an American passport (I was born here but went back to Turkey when I was like 3 months). I went to an international school from Pre-Kindergarden to 12th grade and everything was in English so I basically learned the language when I was 4-5 and that made applying easier because it put me ahead of all the other Turks applying to schools because I'm a good writer and didn't need any extra help with applications or introductory English classes.

I'd say, play up your international-ness. Schools love diversity and they love new perspectives and just talk about your background and your life (both in interviews if you get them, and in personal statements. I personally never went to an interview, just applied and picked the school I wanted to go to) and how this is a new oppurtunity for you and for the people you meet because you can introduce them to a culture most people don't know much about besides, "Ooo Godzilla!! Sushi!!!" But don't say it exactly like that heh, make it flowery and impressive. If you're comfortable talking about, also introduce stuff about your personal life (I won't type it out here, just in case you want it to be private) because places like Emerson, where I went, love that stuff. They support it and would love to hear real-life stories. Most of the liberal schools do, but I'd be careful in places you're not too sure of because eh, some people are not as open-minded.

Hope this helps!
