Disclaimer: This is a complete work of fiction. No profit has been made.
A/N: Special thanks to
rinoa_85 who noticed that Noel and Dee used the same eyeliner at the Groucho Club a while ago. Also the title was inspired by the movie Raising Helen, but other than that the story has no connection to it.
Summary: Change is inevitable. Change is good. Just not for everyone.
Raising Noel
Julian talks about the twins all the time; how they just eat and cry and poop all the time and how it should be annoying but it’s not, you know?
Noel doesn’t, but he smiles anyway. He wishes Julian would ask him about his day or about the upcoming interviews or about the colour of the sky because he misses him. Misses them.
When he doesn’t, Noel goes out and buys the boys two pairs of matching bright yellow socks. Julia almost swoons when she sees them. Julian looks at him funny all evening. He doesn’t get it at all.
***
When Dee takes his eyeliner from the table and says something like we could look like twins tonight Noel has to force himself not to snatch it back from her and snap the thing in two.
He doesn’t want them to look alike, doesn’t want anyone to think they’re twins. He needs Dee to be there for him but not like that.
I already have my twin he wants to say, needs to say. He’s just a bit lost right now, but he’ll come back like he always does.
He never wanted to wash off his make-up this badly before.
***
Noel puts red highlights in his hair but messes it up and he turns out like a confused peacock. He has to meet Julian that evening but he’s already late and he just can’t take anymore of Julian being there with him when - really - he’s anywhere but there.
He sits down on a bench near his house and when Julian comes out to find him he feels like an ass for thinking he wouldn’t.
You are a mess Julian says and runs a gentle hand through his chaotic hair.
Just for you Noel thinks.
Julian sits down next to him.
