m/m novel rec

today I needed something to get my mind off my hockey heartbreak (I don't even want to get into it, ok, just don't).

And, for the first time in what feels like forever, I found a great book that I can confidently rec you guys! woohoo!

Dragon Slayer by Isabella Carter
192 pages
Ingram is a coward and weakling-at least according to his father, the king, and the royal court. He cannot use a sword, he faints at the sight of blood, and even his brilliant abilities as a strategist are not enough to overcome his failings. When his father loses a bet to the notorious Lord Mallory over the matter of a dragon slaying, he pays his debt by ordering Ingram to marry him.

Then his father reveals that he is putting Ingram to a greater purpose, giving Ingram one last chance to prove he is not worthless. All it requires is betraying his new husband.

ok, so I went into this thinking it would be a predictable romantic setup, light on the plot and heavy on the romance. WRONG. It's not epic fantasy or anything, but there's a lot of world building, and much more magical and political elements than the summary really implies. DRAGONS! MAGES! REBELLION! It was actually really detailed and well plotted, and kept me intrigued the whole way through. Some things I guessed early on, others surprised me, it was a lot of fun figuring it all out.

And the romance is really sweet and adorable in the kind of domestic, cuddly way I love. There are no sex scenes, which I was actually sort of relieved to find. Sometimes I just want characters to be sweet and adorable and hold hands, ok, I don't always need the gory details.

The end makes it pretty clear there's gonna be a sequel, I'm hoping it will be released fairly soon, because it promises to be full of ~drama.

If anyone's interested, I can loan my kindle copy to the first taker. (speaking of which, is anyone else on lendle? I've got a bunch of m/m novels up for loan there)

Alrighty. gotta get to bed, because tomorrow my department is going on a 'team building day', lol. We were supposed to go to a Red Sox game, and then someone forgot to buy the tickets. LAME. So we're going to the zoo. Which is no Sox game, but it's ok, I guess. BABY GOATS, PREPARE TO BE THOROUGHLY PETTED.

reading is sexy, m/m romance novels
