While I watch the Pens games, I like to keep tabs on the tumblr tags for the team, so I can share in all the excitement and celebration, and see the screen shots and gifs.
But I've found, during the games that aren't going our way, people get very negative very quickly. Virtually every post under the Penguins tag right now is despairing or disparaging or whining.

And, I just, I don't get it. Maybe it's because I come from Red Sox fandom, where we're pretty much used to the ups and downs, the bad series, the mediocre streaks. But being a Sox fan isn't a fair weather thing, and even when they're doing poorly, you boo the other team and keep cheering on your boys. And maybe get a beer refill.
Maybe Pens fans are too used to winning, or maybe hockey is just more intense. Because the Pens have a bad game, and their own fans are trash talking them like they're the worst thing to ever embarrass the NHL.
Yes, they're having a really hard night, and they haven't been playing to their potential lately. I get it, it's frustrating. But a dozen posts saying they don't care, or they aren't trying? Seriously? Do you think anyone in the world cares more than Sidney Crosby, when they aren't playing their best? Do you think anyone is taking this harder than them? Do you think they wouldn't turn it around if they could? But some games are just like that. You deal. You cheer on your boys. That's what you fucking do.
I know, tumblr doesn't represent all fans, and yes, it's fine to recognize when a team isn't playing their best, and to analyze why. But there's just so much negativity, it's killing me. Flower is on the bench looking like he wants to cry because he let his team and his fans down, and people think they don't fucking care. Ridiculous.
/soapbox. this doesn't apply to you lovely people on lj. I just needed to get out my frustration. do I want to see my team do well? of course. BUT I STILL LOVE MY BOYS, CRAPPY GAME, CRAPPY SEASON, WHATEVER.
Man, I wasn't even gonna talk about hockey today. I wanted to make a very happy post about watching The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, but now I'm just too frustrated. ugh what a mood killer.
