Sometimes I take myself far too seriously, which is why the resurgence of geekiness in the past few weeks have been so much fun :) So many new things to love! And so many old loves to say hello to again :)
1) Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer
I finished it and after an entire day of thinking about it and about how each element weaves in to the next, I decided that I liked it. Haha. It should have been 2 books - and that was the editor's fault. What I think is most interesting is that the author doesn't even realize the power of what she created - that this series tapped in to an archetypal romance, and that Bella is an Everygirl - indistinct and ordinary enough that she washes out and allows the reader to step into the character's shoes, heart and soul.
But what made the book for me is Jacob. Love him.
2) The X-Files movie
The best part: huddling with Alexie and Therese in the theater, squee-ing at all the right parts. The first few bars of the theme song! Sunflower seeds! Mulder and Scully - in LOVE! OMG Mitch Pileggi!! hahaha. Ano ba. The story - bland. But the trip back to the days of wanting to believe was great.
3) Doctor Who
So well-written, so much depth, and so much fun! I love the Doctor and his frenetic energy, his rage and wonder and fury and joy and love and loneliness.
People think Sci-fi and fantasy are frivolous and escapist. Stories like these show that what strangeness allows for is the barefaced, undressed Truth.
4) James McAvoy
Love. Him. I don't care how silly this sounds. Thank you Therese and Ate Dada! Hahaha. And Julia, I don't care if you have dibs. Haha ;)
And now I come to the end of this self-serving piece. Nerdy gush-fest na walang patutunguhan - fun lang ;p Don't worry, this is only partly what I'm up to. I truly DO do more than this every day. And I just realized that having fun stuff like this in my life fuels everything else I do :) It really is important to have down time every day. Joy.
