With a show of disdain, Mutt sat down near the crater’s edge looking at his mother and father as they held each other. Marion loved her son, but sometimes she wanted to punch him.
Ox sighed happily and patted the boy on the back. Soon, Mutt was distracted by talk of inter-dimensional travel. For that act, she was eternally thankful to Oxley.
“So, what did you tell the kid?” Indy asked in a low, gruff tone.
“Hmm?” Looking up at him, Marion felt the setting sun on her face and the solid warmth of his familiar arms.
“When he was growing up?” His tone got even lower. “What did you tell him about me?”
She looked straight and steady into his eyes. His gaze was intense in the fading light. With all the honesty, she told him. “Nothing.”
“Nothing?”
Marion tried to keep her temper under control. “You’re surprised? I was angry and hurt. I didn’t know if we would see you again.”
Fuming, Indy responded. “Well, you’re seeing me now!”
Before she could pull away or think of a retort, he held her tighter and said, “And I have something to tell you.”
“Yeah?” Marion knew her tone was challenging, but she could care less at this moment.
“Yeah,” he retorted. “You’re never getting rid of me. As soon as we get back, I’m gonna marry you.”
There was silence. A glance at Ox and Mutt showed astonishment on both their faces. Marion looked back at Indiana. He didn’t just look serious. His body felt serious against hers; his whole being was tense and ready for anything.
There was some much tension between them. Furiously, Marion kissed him. The years melted away, and they were on a freighter with the Ark. Another few moments of passion and they were back at the beginning experiencing their first kiss at the College.
The long denied couple broke apart when there was a snort of disbelief from a certain younger member of the Jones family. Night did fall fast in the jungle; Marion couldn’t clearly make out the figures of Ox and Mutt.
“Cover your ears, Son,” Indy said gruffly.
Marion smiled. After all these years, their family was together. She would have thought more, but her soon to be husband started kissing her again.
