Alright. Just saw Mamma Mia. I'm not a great critque, but I'd give the movie 4 stars.
Since I'm bored, here's my thoughts on it.
Ok. So, an adaptation of one of my favourite musicals. C'mon, who doesn't love Mamma Mia?
Actually, probably a lot of people.
Anyways...
Plot: Because it's an adaptation, I'm not going to comment on the general plot. It's kinda the same as the musical, but a little more modern. The way the movie was presented, I'd like to think of the adaptation as a movie that only shares the same plot as the musical. Even the music wasn't the same to me.
Music/Singing: I love Abba. I love the lyrics, the singing, and the instrumentals. But, for the movie, the sound of the actors' singing was a hell of a lot different than the original. Meryl's singing was pretty bad in my opinion. The rest of the cast was ok. They cut the music pretty short, in my opinion.
I was kinda annoyed when they didn't do Thank You For The Music. It's one of my favourite songs (although not a lot of others like it). They did play it in the credits though.
Ah, the credits. MAKE SURE YOU STAY UNTIL THE END OF WATERLOO. IT'S HILARIOUS.
Acting/Dancing: The acting was a little overdramatic, but it wasn't so much you'd want to shoot yourself in the head. Once again, Meryl's job wasn't that great. She was annoying to watch during The Winner Takes It All. Also, there were spots where they'd cut to a random scene while they're singing a song that I didn't really feel was right for that song.
Choice of actors: Meryl Streep wasn't a great choice. Julie Walters did a fairly good job. I think Christine Baranski played her part very well.
Amanda Seyfried: good, but not awesome during 1 or 2 songs. Pierce Brosnan was quite good. Colin Firth gets 4.5 stars from me. Stellan Skarsgård was pretty good.
There you go. I reccomend seeing it. Keep in mind though, it's almost like an entirely different story with the same plot and songs. Sort of like those adaptations of Romeo and Juliet that are more modern times, only not such a big times gap.
