Last week my parents pulled all of the wallpaper off the living room and hallway walls and repainted all of them. It's very nice, light blue on the bottom, and white on the top, with a piece of moulding in the middle.
Next week my Dad's having surgery, so they decided to take this week and go visit my niece and my brother and sister-in-law. They are coming back tomorrow. They've asked me to house sit. Feed the cat and the dogs (Boston and Harry), give Boston her antibiotics, take in the mail, stuff like that. This morning, after feeding them and letting them run around for a bit, I called them in to give Boston her drugs. She took the pill just fine, but fussed when I tried to put the ointment on her. I finally got some of it on, then I noticed blood on my arm. Then I noticed droplets of blood on the ground. I knew the blood wasn't mine, so I grabbed a paper towel and started running it over the dog trying to find the blood. (She's black. You can't see blood on her). Nothing. Then I look at Harry, who's gold. I didn't see anything on his paws or his face, but as I looked around I saw more and more droplets of blood. I thought maybe he'd gotten into something, because I found a lot of drops on his side. Nope. He'd somehow managed to wound the tip of his tail. He let me look at it for a few seconds. It doesn't seem to be hurting much, and it had stopped bleeding by the time I finally found it. No yipping, no growling, just "Hey! You're holding me back!" Small wound, no major trauma, no real pain. I think he's fine.
The thing is, if you want to get the most possible about of blood out of a small wound on an extremity, swing it around a lot. Hard. You can really spray it! Harry is a very happy dog. A real tail wagger.
There are spatters of blood all through out the kitchen, living room, dining room and hallway. I did manage to get the blood out of the spot where he'd been sitting on the carpet (hydrogen peroxide works great on fresh blood, if you get it before it dries).
I cleaned up as much as I could find and I'll look again each time I go before they get back tomorrow night. I know it's not my fault, but still. You just want everything to go smoothly when you are housesitting. Even if it doesn't normally go smoothly when they owners are there, you want them to feel safe leaving their home and their pets in your capable hands.
