FAST FRIENDS AT BLACKHAWK HIGH

NOBODY THOUGHT IT WOULD HAPPEN
In retrospect, Sarah Kolb did everything but broadcast her deadly intentions on the school loudspeaker. She told one friend, "I'm going to kill that girl (Adrianne) right there." Another recalls Sarah saying that "she wasn't scared to kill (Adrianne)...she had always wanted to know what it felt like to kill somebody." Friends say Kolb even ran through the hallways, announcing her plans to all who would listen. So, why didn't anyone act? That's a question that will haunt Adrianne's family for years to come.

A TRAGEDY WAITING TO HAPPEN
If there was an award for the student "Most Likely to Commit Murder," Sarah Kolb's classmates might have put her name on the short list. She sported the Goth look. She had a passion for the gory lyrics of the band, Insane Clown Posse. She even created a bizarre web site filled with disturbing journal entries and chilling pictures. Still, despite these red flags, Sarah couldn't possibly be taken seriously when she spoke of killing Adrianne. Or could she?

At first, Adrianne and Sarah were friends. But when Adrianne's father told his daughter to stop hanging around with Sarah, the trouble started. Sarah became jealous of the attention boys paid to Adrianne. Police say her jealousy turned to rage, and Sarah began bragging about her plans to kill Adrianne. Everybody figured Sarah was joking. But when Adrianne's body was found, nobody was laughing. Tonight, as Sarah proclaims her innocence, A CURRENT AFFAIR heads to Illinois to examine a fatal friendship in America's heartland.
