In my effort to post more, I'm going to try to talk about books at least once a month ( Read more... )

Books, I can always talk about books! I mean, hello, good to see you again ;)

What did you think of the ending of Allegiant? I talked about it with someone else a while ago, and we both felt that it was a bit too smooth how everything worked out. [Spoiler (click to open)]You know, the whole memory reset thing and how just a few years later Chicago was this prospering city...

I stopped reading the Dexter books after the fourth one. I didn't like that one as much as the first three and just couldn't be bothered to read more. Sounds like I'm not missing much ;)

Last month I started reading the Mortal Instruments series, have you read it yet? I'm currently in the middle of book 2... it isn't great literature, but still fun to read.
I've also been reading quite a few graphic novels, like Fables.

I didn't really like much at all about Allegiant, especially the ending. It was like "SPOILER! died. Okay, I did what I wanted to do - let's quickly wrap everything else up and make it all neat and pretty with a bow."

How did you like the switching POV? I thought it was odd to first do this in the 3rd/final book in a series. And sometimes I had to double-check who was narrating because Tris and Four had very similar "voices".

You're definitely not missing much with the Dexter books. I don't know if there is/will be more, but this is my last one. They don't seem quite the same. In this one, the police are being shadowed by two movie stars who are observing for upcoming roles and Dexter ends up being bodyguard for the female star. My interest is already waning and I haven't even really gotten into the mysterious killer part of the plot .. . .

I haven't read Mortal Instruments - I'll have to put that on the ever growing TBR list :)

I wasn't bothered so much by the character death, but yeah, everything seemed to get wrapped up much too nice and quickly.

The changing POV was confusing because I kept forgetting whose part I was reading and then halfway through a chapter I'd realized I had got them mixed up yet again... I think the book might have worked better if it had just been from Tris' POV with perhaps an epilogue told by Four.

If you do read the Mortal Instruments series, be warned that the writing is sometimes horribly cliché. But if you don't take the story too serious, it's at least fun to read. Or at least it is that way for me *g*
