1.
Lauren tapped her glass. "I just wanted to say congratulations again to my mom and to Miranda on their first anniversary. I think it's so obvious when two people who are meant to be together find each other and I'm so grateful to see my mother so happy. Miranda, I'm so glad that you're my other mother."
Miranda held up her glass with a smile in acknowledgment.
"And here's to many more anniversaries!" Lauren toasted and then rejoined the mingling crowd.
Jane took Lauren into a big hug with a grin. "Honey, thank you, that was a really lovely toast."
2.
"Here. Try this." Jane said, grinning from ear to ear, sliding the plate in front of Miranda.
Miranda closed her book and looked at the flaky, buttery pastry that her girlfriend had just presented her with. She picked it up and tore off a piece. "What is it?"
"Caramel and sea salt croissant. I think it's going to be your new favorite."
"You think I'll like it better than chocolate?" She teased.
"Would you just try it? You're driving me crazy!" Jane laughed.
Miranda took a bite, the caramel still warm and gooey and her eyes widened. "I love it..."
3.
Miranda threaded her fingers through Jane's. Jane smiled, "good morning."
"Good morning." Miranda pressed a kiss to the blonde's temple. "I like days when you don't rush off to the bakery before I wake up."
Jane turned around in Miranda's arms and nuzzled against her neck. "You just like me being here in the morning so I'll make you coffee and breakfast."
"I have never denied that." Miranda shrugged playfully.
Jane slipped one strap of Miranda's negligee from her shoulder. "So what do you say we work up an appetite?"
Miranda pulled her close, hiking Jane's leg over her hip.
4.
"There you are."
"Here I am." Miranda smiled, stretching out in the warm sun on a lounge by Jane's pool.
"Is this what you've been doing all day?" Jane teased, pulling up a chair alongside her girlfriend.
"Well, I made an obscene amount of money on a stock trade before breakfast but yes, pretty much this." Miranda slid her sunglasses onto her head. "I love my life."
"Well, what's not to love?" Jane laughed. "I mean, you landed me after all."
"And thank goodness for that." Miranda took Jane's hands and kissed them. "I love you."
"I love you too."
5.
"Hey beautiful." Miranda sat down next to Jane. "I have a proposition for you."
"Oh?"
"I think you should open a second location. I happened upon the perfect property and I've talked to the real estate agent-"
"Slow down." Jane laughed, "the Bakery is doing great but I have a loan for the addition to the house, I-"
Miranda took Jane's hands. "Jane Adler, will you marry me?"
"Miranda! Yes, absolutely yes! But how does-"
"You said that a ring would be trite..."
"You can't buy me a building..." Jane laughed.
"Come see it before you decide." Miranda grinned.
6.
Jane walked through the entrance as Miranda flipped on the lights. "This would be perfect..."
"Just say the word, darling."
Jane laughed, "I can't just let you buy me property..."
"It's an investment in us as a couple." Miranda insisted, drawing Jane against her. "I have the money; let me do this."
"You're not going to take no for an answer, are you?"
"Preferably no."
"Yes, okay, let's do it." Jane turned in Miranda's arms. "But I'm going to pay you back-- every cent."
"Not a chance." Miranda dropped kisses to Jane's neck. "Let's celebrate our good news..."
"Here?"
"Here."
7.
"What's that?"
"Package from Jake." Jane shrugged, sitting down.
"Oh good." Miranda rolled her eyes.
A card and a smaller box fell out of the flat-rate shipping box. "Happy engagement, ladies." Jane laughed and handed the card to Miranda.
Jane laughed, showing Miranda the contents of the box: four . "Do you partake, dear?"
"Not for years," Miranda put one of the joints between her lips, "got a light, honey?"
Jane lit the joint and Miranda took a long drag before passing it to Jane. Miranda leaned her head back and blew rings.
"Show me how to do that!" Jane laughed.
