Has anyone ever complained to you about how people are forgetting the true meaning of Christmas? "All it's become is a commercial holiday," or, "Presents and money are not what Christmas is really about." Then what is Christmas really about? The birth of Christ, being together with family, or simply taking a break from our overly mundane lives?
Christmas by definition, is "a holiday celebrated mainly by Christians to mark the birth of Jesus, but is also largely a secular holiday celebrated by some non-Christian populations in predominantly Christian countries." (that definition came from wikipedia, so if you do not agree complain to them you self righteous pricks). So what do the people do who believe that the meaning of Christmas has been lost in our Capitalist society? Do they bake a cake, light candles, and sing to Jesus; completely ignoring the tradition of giving gifts because they do not want to conform to a greed-driven practice? Probably not. They buy gifts like every other person in the world while basking in their own river of bullshit contradictions.
For the people who complain about commercialism taking Christmas away from Jesus, I say this to you. The physical existence of Jesus Christ is NOT a proven fact. Although historical documentations by ancient Roman scholars speak of a man from Nazareth preaching to mass numbers of people, there has not been any solid proof or relic that is known to have come from Jesus Christ. There are more than 8 Holy Grails throughout the world, all which claim to be "authentic." The Holy Shroud (burial cloths of Christ) were proven to be fake. Radio carbon dating discovered that the shroud was from about 1200 to 1300 A.D. And traces of paint were also found on the linen of the shroud. Without actual DNA from Christ himself, any bloodstains on crosses, nails, clothes, and other artifacts have no factual substantiation as to their authenticity.
As for me, I find Christmas to be a time for relaxing from the daily inconveniences that seem to plague every minute of my life. I do buy gifts for people (when I can afford it) because I find that it is a good way to show someone that you care. I don't give a fuck that I may be "giving in to meaningless consumerism" because to me, Christmas does have a meaning even in the absence of Christ.
So in conclusion, people will say whatever they want with or without any form of valid verification. But if you're going to make bullshit claims that insult an age old tradition because you hate spending Christmas alone masturbating, then you are no better than the so called "cultural vandals" that you claim others to be.
So Merry Christmas everybody. And please, for the holidays, don't be a blood belching vagina. Use common sense, and if you feel the need to spout anti-holiday bullshit, keep it to yourself.
