You know, it's really kind of fucked. Here I was having this terrible day and then I kind of cheered up and went out for some pizza and a movie. I wound up getting something with Christopher Walken called Around The Bend. After that I stopped at the bookstore and looked around for the first time in two weeks, and then I come home to find this over at LOP:

LATE BREAKING NEWS

The DOI has found out today from NWS Promoter Joe Panzarino, that one of the greats in the business, Chris Candido, passed away tonight. The early reports are that Candido died from a staph infection. This is all we know as of right now. We at the DOI are hoping that this story isn't true, but as of right now according to Joe Panzarino and Balls Mahoney, Chris Candido passed away today at a young age.

The DOI sends its condolences to the friends, family and fans of Chris Candido.

More On Chris Candido

The DOI can 100% confirm that Chris Candido did pass away this past Thursday night. It seems that he received some sort of staph infection during his surgery to fix his broken ankle.

I have talked to alot of people in the wrestling world in the last hour and everyone is just in a huge state of shock. Chris Candido was definitely one of the most liked guys in wrestling. Being in locker rooms, and hearing from people who have been around him, I can tell you that every wrestler from the rookies to veterans, got along with him. Chris would wrestle with anyone and try to make everyone he wrestled look good.

Again, our condolences go out to the family, fans and friends of Chris Candido.

and this over at Wrestling Observer dot com:

Details are still sketchy regarding the death of Chris Candito (Chris Candido) earlier today at the age of 33.

There are conflicting reports regarding the cause of death, and the police in Matawan, NJ, where he lives, were not able to confirm his death.

Candito suffered a broken leg on Sunday's Lockdown PPV from TNA, and underwent surgery on Monday. He appeared as a manager at the TV tapings Tuesday night before returning home.

Candido was a prominent part of tomorrow's TNA Impact TV show, interfering and leading to The Naturals winning the NWA tag titles over Chris Harris & James Storm.

I'd be a liar if I said that I had seen Candido wrestle in the last few years, because I don't think that I've honestly seen him since his short stint in World Championship Wrestling, back when they were owned by Turner, but I remember this guy back when he was in the WWF as part of The Bodydonnas with Tom Pritchard and then again when he was "Mr. No-Gimmicks-Needed" in Extreme Championship Wrestling as part of "The Triple Threat" with Shane Douglas and Bam Bam Bigelow and this guy was not only really athletic and skilled on the microphone, but he was also just a lot of fun to watch in the ring. And I actually saw him wrestle live at the first ECW show that I went to in like ninety-seven or ninety-eight I think. Those guys busted their asses that night and any time that you ever saw ECW live, in fact, you got more than your money's worth.

This is just a sad night to be a wrestling fan and a sad day to someone else's family and friends because they've really lost someone special tonight.

My immediate thoughts on this are just that it's really fucked up, but really what else is there to say? Thirty-three years old. What a shame. Rest in peace Chris Candito.
