I'm having some problems with the word 'homophobia.'

I mean, I cannot believe that over fifty percent of California has a debilitating fear of homosexuals, which is what a phobia is (compare, arachnophobia or claustrophobia). Perhaps a hatred or distaste, but that's misusing language. The analogous term for the disrespect of other races or sexes would be racism or sexism, but that's also not true to the Latin root -ism (a doctrine or belief. Belief of sex = I don't like other sexes?) So Homosexualism is consistent with what we already have, but not all that logical. If I had to pick a Latin root, I'd probably go with 'audax', which is "boldeness, lack of respect" (see, audacity). Homoaudax: lack of respect for homosexuals. If only the word didn't sound so nifty...
