I apologize for the recent lack of updates on this here LiveJournal. My life has slowly but surely taken a turn for the normal- my day follows a routine with more or less the same variation as my typical day in high school last year. The lack of wild daily adventures is, while somewhat disappointing, not entirely unexpected. Here's what has happened since I last posted:
Halloween: The costumes 'round these parts were mostly disappointing, if not nonexistent. Besides a big burly guy dressed up as Ash Ketchum (of Pokemon fame), the vast majority of costumry around here consisted of people wearing those devil horns or cat ears you can buy for $4.99 at your local made-in-China store. The RPG club did slightly better, but most of their costumes would be considered incomprehensible to the common person. I, of course, was dressed as a banana.
RPG Club: On Wednesday, so we all got to check out each other's costumes (see above section). After that, it became apparent that my DM had decided not to show up, so I sat in on a different game (as an observer). This game was playing towards the tactical side of D&D. The combats were all well thought-out, with tactics and intense planning phases before each encounter. On the other hand, not a single in-character word was said all session.
Watching different groups play gives me an increased appreciation of different play styles. This group wasn't playing D&D badly (which I've seen as well), they were just playing with a different emphasis. Not exactly what I'd be looking for in an ideal game, but fun nevertheless if done correctly.
Geek Day out: Saturday was Geek Day Out, which consists of visiting ever gaming and comic book store in the San Diego area (four) and then having a really big lunch. I think I probably spent the least, at around $30 including the all-you-can-eat-buffet lunch. My purchases included a rather nice-looking d20 (I felt inferior not having one for so long) and a d20 Modern campaign setting called Dark*Matter. I'll talk about it a bit more in my next entry, which I presumably will not be writing while performing a CSE3 Lab.
Facebook: I now officially have more friends on facebook than there are people that I could name. On the one hand, it's kind of scary. On the other hand, it's a real ego boost. I haven't spoken to or had any social contact with anyone since Sunday, but I still feel like a fundamentally social person. Well connected, and such. And I like coming up with answers to the question "Sam is..."
More later!
