UKRAINIAN STUDENTS ABROAD URGE ALL NATIONS OF THE WORLD AND INTERNATIONAL CIVIC COMMUNITY TO EXPRESS THEIR SUPPORT TO THE FREE CHOICE OF UKRAINIAN PEOPLE AND TO CONDEMN BRUTAL INTERFERENCE OF RUSSIAN FEDERATION INTO THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS IN UKRAINE

We, the people of Ukraine, currently pursuing studies abroad, being representatives of Ukrainian youth and student community summon for Your attention and help!

We express our disappointment with the incompliance of the second stage of the presidential elections in Ukraine to the commonly accepted democratic standards and, thus, with their unfair outcome. Ukrainian people were deprived of their fundamental human right - right to elect their authorities!

On the one hand, we are proud of our country and our people, who for the first time in the modern Ukrainian history went out to streets in freezing cold to demonstrate determination to defend their free choice, their adherence to democracy, and to protest against tyranny and abuses of the Ukrainian government (millions of people came to the streets all over Ukraine). On the other hand, it is painful for us to feel the complete loss of trust in the ruling power and we are highly concerned about the unfairness of the election process and cynical large scale election fraud.

We express our indignation against brutal interference of the Russian Federation in the domestic affairs of Ukraine by deployment of its special forces in the suburbs of Kyiv, and in particular in the town of Irpin and at the military airport in the town of Vasilkiv, which are nearby the capital of Ukraine. This information has not become available to broad circles in Ukraine and in the world, but there is a strong evidence of that, which is confirmed by Ukrainian independent media, confessions of some military staff in Ukraine, sources close to law-enforcement agencies in Ukraine and testimonies of witnesses, inhabitants of Vasylkiv.

This is the clear interference of the Russian Federation into the internal affairs and democratic process in Ukraine, violation of sovereignty and independence of our nation, brutal disregard of international legal obligations under the UN charter and customary international law. It is clearly inconsistent with Russia’s official position, demonstrated through the world media to the international community these days. By the undertaken operation the Russian Federation, and, in particular, by its President Vladimir Putin, demonstrated readiness to suppress free expression of citizens of a neighboring country, in case such expression is inconsistent with Russia’s strategic interests in the region.

We urge all members of the United Nations to condemn any interference of Russia in the internal affairs of sovereign Ukraine, especially the depletion of it’s special forces on the territory of the latter and the possible use of force against its peaceful population who defend their democratic rights.

We cannot ignore the evident lack of fair coverage of the present political situation in Ukraine by the world media, in particular, of the mentioned fact of brutal interference by the Russian Federation! We call for all world media to speak in one voice not to allow violence and conflict! Stability, peace and fair representative democracy in Ukraine are crucially needed for Europe and for the whole world! There cannot be secure Europe without secure Ukraine!

Please, support the people of the young Ukrainian democratic state to defend their free choice by peaceful means and prevent possible bloodshed, violence and conflict!

Ukrainian people have deep roots of democratic traditions of life. At the times of Cossaks State in the central Ukraine (XV-XVIII centuries A.D.) all political affairs were decided by people on their own, and they freely elected their leaders and defended their freedom. In our modern times, we cannot betray traditions of our ancestors and will not allow imposition of totalitarian regime in our territory!

We rely on adherence of all international organizations, member-states of the European Union, other states of the world and the whole international civic society to the principles of democracy, rule of law, human rights protection and, and strongly believe in your positive response!
