Such a long gap, yet again. So I’ll bullet point and then, possibly, enlarge.
• I had a lovely weekend two weeks ago visiting
the_royal_anna. This included Dr Who watching, Buffy discussing, cake eating, piano playing, family meeting and Winchester walking. Lovely stuff, lovely people and just plain lovely to get out of London for a couple of days.
• I have been writing a follow up to Whisky and Time. In fact I’m at nearly 10,000 words, nearly ready to edit and nearly ready to post.
Treacle_a has been sterling in her beta-ing despite her busy schedule. I use the words ‘have been’ as, despite not yet having posted anything, it’s on hiatus. Impressive, huh? But I have an excellent excuse.
• I’m directing again WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! I have a little less than two weeks until the play goes up, it’s at a good theatre and this is their first in-house production in 4 years and I have a lovely cast. I’m not producing so it’s not as manic as last summer’s writing/producing gig which means I will be tired at the end of it but not totally burnt out. Can’t say I’m happy to be working a seven day week plus evenings but…actually, I kinda am. A good rehearsal room makes the rest of the world disappear. I did do a little directing and tech work a month or so ago but that’s a tale for another time…like when I really feel like depressing myself. This play is anything but depressing - having a whale of a time.
• Other work is…keeping a roof over my head. That’s about as exciting as it gets. I did make quite an improvement to my CV recently by going on a week long, intensive project management training course (oh god, the pain) but that’s about it. There are changes underway which may have positive repercussions for me but it’s all a bit up in the air and ‘jam tomorrow’-ish.
•
Eurydice72 - fret not, I have the plaques well in hand and I am just waiting on the results to add the text. Also? Still loving Beg The Liquid Red. Certainly one of my very faves of your stories.
• I have introduced my flat mate to the love of Buffy. Despite my being infrequently at home right now we are already half way through season 2. I suspect that once rehearsals are over the watching will get kicked up a gear. I’m quite enjoying the way that she asks to watch it rather than me trying to persuade her into it. Ah, Buffy…
• Things are good on the home front. I don’t know how long that will continue (which does sound rather negative I realise) but for now things are on an even keel. I am sort of waiting for my flat mate to tell me that she’s moving out as I know she really wants her own place but I don’t think she can afford it and I don’t think she’s unhappy where she is. I hope she isn’t because I’m not. Added to which I have absolutely no desire to move again for quite some time.
• I envy all of you who are going to WriterCon. The real irony? I think I could have afforded it - just. But if I’d arranged to go, I wouldn’t have been able to do the play. So it all works out in the end.
• The MsScribe saga is fascinating. Thanks to
spikewriter for pointing it out.
• All my tv shows are ending. But the timing is perfect as I can’t stay in and watch tv anyway.
• The World Cup is leading me a merry dance. I can’t quite justify arranging the rehearsal schedule around matches so Tuesday was a case of dealing with the aftermath rather than seeing the action. However, I am fully justified in watching on Sunday as the match is being shown downstairs from our rehearsal space so we wouldn’t be able to get anything done anyway due to the noise. Poor Owen. Poor Newcastle. Theo who?
• Just heard from my mum; one of our cats is being put to sleep today. Minor stroke yesterday leading to total disorientation and major movement problems. He’s the last of the many cats I grew up with or knew before I left home. Mum’s in a terrible state and I’m trying not to think about it.
And on that note…yeah. There is much good in my world right now and I’m going to focus on that. Hope you are all well and I’ll continue to keep an eye on all your posts even if I post nothing myself. Lurking…that’s the word. Yep, I’ll be doing that.
