This is an exchange I had with visitors to the table next to us at last night's dinner with my in-laws. A couple with two small children with them came over to chat with the large (and annoyingly loud) group next to us. Instead of talking to each other at their table, where they likely couldn't hear themselves, they decided to stand right next to our table and talk so loudly we couldn't continue our conversation -and- they hindered our server's ability to bring our dinners to us. After a five minutes of this I'd had enough.
Me: Excuse me, but would please move your conversation back to your table or perhaps out to the entry way? You are crowding our table.
Wife (in a snotty tone): Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that we were bothering you.
Me: Well, you keep bumping my husband with your hip (it was really her ass, but I still was trying to be pleasant) and your child kicked my father in laws water glass. Besides, it's hard to enjoy our meal with people towering over our table talking.
Man: Do you know who he is?? (indicating the woman's husband)
Me: No, I don't know who he is, but I do know you are an ass for thinking it should make a difference.
Shocked insulted faces all around, in-laws looking vaguely horrified, husband smirking. But they did leave.
Now I kinda wonder who he was. Do we have a yuppie Mafia in MN?
