Looks fun, but isn't

On Friday night I felt a bit like the starving orphan staring in through the bakery window. As the bus paused at the traffic lights I could see right into a swanky pub. Everyone was laughing and drinking and having a good time and I felt a bit deprived. Then I realised that if I had gone in I'd be really smegging bored. Why? Well:

I can't drink due to my tablets, if I do I talk even more bollocks than usual and then get sleepy after 1 glass (plus it's expensive)
I can't hear anyone talking over the music (and it's normally crap music too)
If I could hear anyone over the music, I can't think of anything to talk about except roleplay and work, so I clam up after about an hour
As I have nothing to contribute and am not very simulated I would like to depart to do something interesting, but feel I'm being very sad if I leave after an hour

So basically I can't drink, can't hear, and can't talk. After I thought about this, I felt less like a starving orphan.

[Last night I got a bit drunk at home and inncubus, madaxe_mcbrutal and Dave were treated to snippets of the latest children's book I'm reading to 6 year olds:
Under the bed (abridged)
Under the bed are bugs and beasts, nibbling crumbs for their midnight feasts,
Gobbling, squabbling, all night through, but far too busy to think about you.

Under the bed is an alligator, who might be feeling hungry later,
He'll have a pizza, or maybe two, so I don't expect he'll be bothering you.

But under the bed is something more, something bigger than a stable door!
With big, big mouth, and big, big jaws.....but it's never been known to show its claws.

It sits in the dark and its sucking its thumb! It calls out for its mummy and daddy to come.
And it says as it shivers from its toes to its head - "I saw something horrible inside the bed!"

I bet you can all guess what the scary thing in the bed was :) ]
