Since everyone has started posting about 300, here are my thoughts:
- Although I enjoy Political Science more than I did Economics, I believe History would be the perfect fit for me. Sigh, if only money was no object in this world..
- The best way to enjoy a movie, is to lower your expectations. 300 was greatly hyped up, not by the critics, mind you, but by everyone else straining against time to view the definitive movie of 2007. With such high expectations, I did not want to end up disappointed (like I did with Alexander) and followed the same formula I practiced with Kingdom of Heaven. Guys, lowered expectations.
- Luckily, 300 delivered. AND THEN SOME. I am not ashamed to say this, but I believe 300 has surpassed Troy territory and is within the range of movies such as "Gladiator". Sue me.
- The story of the 300 Spartans is really a fascinating one. Although it was a bit exaggerated, (The Persians numbered 200,000 - 400,000, in reality) still, the gravity of such an historic event could not be denied. Ultimately, the Spartans lost that battle, but as the movie implies, the effect on the morale of Persian troops, knowing full well that 300 stopped the millions advancing, could not be replaced. If they could be delayed by 300, what would they think when 10,000 Spartans suddenly face them in battle?
- Is there anyone more manly than the Spartan 300? hahaha.
- As
carlsgonewild has pointed out, Zach Snyder seemingly came out of nowhere to direct such a spectacular film. (His previous one was "Dawn of the Dead.") Well, it hit me, Peter Jackson seemingly came out of nowhere as well, once "Fellowship of the Ring" was released (His previous movie then was "The Frighteners") Any violent objections to this analogy?
- Let me say sorry in advance to everyone I'd probably annoy in the near future, with all the nonsensical repetition of lines I remember from 300. haha. Again, sorry.
- In the history of irony, nothing beats this exchange in comedy:
- Leonidas: "I hope that..scratch doesn't make you useless to me"
- Dilios (aka Faramir): "Hardly mi lord, it is only an EYE, the gods saw fit to grace me with a spare"
- HAHAHA GOOD TIMES ALL AROUND.
- to everyone who still hasn't caught the fever, SHAME ON YOU.
Now to end this.
"Go tell the Spartans, passerby, That here, by Spartan law, we lie."
PS: FOR THE SAKE OF STUPIDITY AND BRAVADO.
