I just noticed that Governor Palin is kind of silly, and I felt that Livejournal may be my most efficient avenue for the communication of such a revelation....
I was watching Charlie Gibson's series of interviews with said illustrious Alaskan, and the topic of Russia's invasion of Georgia came up in the discussion. Essentially, Gibson asked Palin what she thought about the whole Russia-Georgia thing since, you know, Alaska's so close to Russia. But anyway, her answer was pretty much that it was NOT cool for Russia to invade Georgia, which I agree with based on the information I have on the subject, but her reasoning was what really irked me; her reason for wanting to "keep an eye on Russia" was that, "for Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller Democratic country unprovoked is unacceptable." But moments later she stated that America has every right to invade any country that poses a threat to us! What's a threat, anyway? I personally don't feel threatened by any foreign nation that we haven't messed with in some way, but you can leave it to a belligerent government comprised of people who haven't even left the country (president Bush upon inauguration in 2000) to find a way to translate their own fear into a preemptive strike for freedom. I'm sure that the Russian government had a pretty good excuse for invading Georgia, just like we had one for invading Iraq. It's all about perception. To us, Iraq is the bad guy, and to Russia, Georgia is the bad guy, no matter how much of an actual thread it is not.
But I'm sure that Palin is the right person for the job of keeping an eye on mean old Russia because "you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska!" Sneaky, sneaky!
