I know I've been dead silent on this journal for ages, but I promise I'm still alive and kicking on the other side of the Internet connection :) Not that the few people who read this probably haven't had a comment from me anyway, but I feel like I need to provide a proper excuse before I start actively posting again.
I've been horrendously busy at work for several months now, mostly coding and debugging, which tends to warp any ability I posess for the kind of linear thought required to write things down and have them make sense. Outside of work hours (yes, I really do leave the office, and even the computer occasionally), the Guide unit I am trying to be leader of has taken up much of my remaining time. I know I've missed seeing all the local people as much as I ussed to, but social life just wasn't able to be shoehorned in. Both Work and Guides are done for the year now, though, so ha! - LJ land is reinvaded and I'm actually going to see some of you face-to-face at tonights Carolling party hosted by the marvellous Baggy Trousers, so life really does exist after all.
In apology for being a sequentially boring blogger, I'll decorate this post a bit with some pictures that have been taken at work this month. I think I probably mentioned it to a few of you that I've caught up with, but we've had a decorating competition this year, in an effort to make the office a bit less boring-looking than usual. Unsurprisingly, given that we're a complete bunch of nerds, this was a fairly popular idea and the place has been incredibly seasonal...
The competition was for the most impressively decorated pod (cubicle) or office, and prizes were given out at the Company Christmas Party.
Some people are minimalist decorators: this is one of those grow-your-own crystal trees.
Some people decorate with whatever comes to hand. Yes, that really is a basketball hanging from the ceiling!
There's no such thing as too much tinsel:
Or too many lights!
Some people went traditional:
Some went tasteful (even if it did take them all morning to make the snowflakes):
And some have really big ideas about what the season is for!
There's always a technical show-off... the lights on this tree are being switched by the panel of controllers, all programed and managed by a copy of the latest version of our software:
There's also always a scrooge:
First prize was shared between two teams: this first (who have 6 in a double-sized pod) went with an enchanted forest theme, complete with a bunch of intreped (and seasonally dressed) questers at one end and a lamppost to mark the way out:
The other winners were my team, who decided that since we spend so much time in here, we really ought to make t look like home:
No worries about smoke alarms though: we're professional geeks, so our fire was CGI:
And since one of our team members was away the day they did the judging, we gave him some additional gifts:
Heh. Needless to say, productivity was a bit down the week we put all that up!
Best wishes for a fantastic Christmas (or seasonal celebration of your choice) and New Year's to all of you,
- A.
