More running (bored yet?)

Week four, run one today. Week four is structured as below:
  • 5 minute warm up walk
  • 3 minute run
  • 90 second walk
  • 5 minute run
  • 2.5 minute walk
  • 3 minute run
  • 90 second walk
  • 5 minute run
  • 5 minute cool down walk
I decided that rather than run my flat track, I'd do what I call the Western Springs Loop. It's 5.5km and includes a lakeside park, with swans, geese, etc. The first portion is along the flat track, so I could change my mind if I wanted.

My shoes are now nearly fully broken in, and although I got a blister on my last run, I wore them the whole day yesterday and they were feeling much more comfortable.

The runs were all pretty good, and I was chafing to be running again during the 2.5min walk in the middle.

When I got to the final run, I kept running through the five minute warm down, as well. My podcast, which tells me when to walk, when to run, etc, is the only track on my iPod, so I let my podcast cycle back to the start, and used the five minute warm-up timer as my warm-down timer instead.

Ten minutes is the longest I've ever run continuously in my life, and running more than 20 minutes in a 35 minute session is ...boggling to me. If you'd told me I would do that a couple of months ago, I would have laughed. the closest I've gotten before that was the six minutes I ran two days ago, and five minutes in Wellington last month before I kicked off the C25K.

What was even nicer was that during the ten minute run, I ramped up my speed to maximum after the first five minutes, and was still feeling good.

I didn't even noticed that my blister had gained a new blister under it until my five minute warm-down was nearly at an end.

Feeling pretty accomplished today.
