Writer's Block: AKA

I'm going to hijack this thread with an actual post from me, which does not happen very often. We've all probably been obsessed with movies we saw as a kid that freaked us out. Lately I've been trying to track mine down. It's like a personal vendetta film starring Ashley Judd as me and all of the movies were rapists or bad husbands or something. In reality they were aliens who I was scared would abduct me. You see, the thing that freaked me out most as a child was the though that on any given night aliens would walk in through my 5-foot-tall ground-floor windows (that were always open because we didn't have air-conditioning) and take me away.

Anyway, I think that fear was mostly prompted by watching the special E.T. and friends, hosted by Robin Williams. It was some sort of retrospective of aliens in hollywood showing the "greatest moments" of aliens in film. As part of my vendetta I need to find a copy of this show so that I can watch the full films that some of the clips came from that freaked me out the most. Like the one alien that was kind of skinny and moved in slow motion through what in retrospect kind of looked like a black and white degobah with lots of mist towards an astronaut who was breathing heavily in his spaceship. This photo is not of that alien:

Besides aliens, this movie Matango: Attack of the Mushroom People totally made me go outside and throw up when I saw it at some other people's house. It was one of those times where your parents are visiting friends and you have to hang out with their kids. They were watching Attack of the Mushroom people and oh man. These mushroom people were going to PUSH THE ALIENS OUT OF THE WAY AND FREAKING ATTACK ME!! The people who's house this was also had a little old man face thing on the wall that would cackle and then spit at you. Kind of like an ancestor of the Billy Bass.

Two more movies to cover here...and the last one I need some help on. First up: Island of Terror. All I could remember about this movie up until this morning was that it had some sort of radioactive blobs in it. I think. And maybe it was on an island or in the country. I know that maybe someone from Star Wars was in it and it was scientific and at some point one of the blobs fell out of a tree onto someone which freaked me out. Also, the blobs reminded me of the Star Trek episode where there are blobs that have silver eggs and spock mind melds with one. They were very similar blobs. Well, this morning I googled all of those descriptions and came up with Island of Terror. Look it up. Turns out the blobs were some form of silicon and a byproduct (they always are) of some scientist's cancer research. And they would suck your bones out.

OK, and the last film is one I need some help on. Here is what I can remember. There's a guy and there's a building and there's maybe a gate to hell and maybe a giant flaming type of monster? And maybe there's some sort of construction going on with this building. And maybe the guys wears a trenchcoat? And I think the end isn't happy? My friend craig thinks this may be Suspiria or its sequel Inferno but I haven't checked those, yet. We'll see. Any other ideas? Also, if I get my hands on a copy of ET and Friends I'll be able to look up the alien that freaked me out. I think they also showed the alien from War of the Worlds since Spielberg kind of based ET's design on that things. That alien freaked me out, too. Man, even E.T. kind of freaked me out until he ate Reece's Pieces. Goodnight.

Oh, my screen name came from when some friends and I were on spring break in New Orleans and stayed at another friend's grandmother's house. She had a book that we thought had a funny title that we kept saying the whole spring break thinking it was I Am Vidoco. But then on the last day we looked closely and it was actually I Am Vidocq (it was some french detective series). Then later on I messed up and forgot the C when I made my first IM account and I Am Vidoq has stuck ever since.
